so I got a 2600 off ebay but how do I connect it to an LCD TV?

Recommended Posts

once again I will be the proud owner of a hopefully functioning atari 2600 after a short 27 year gap. However, i just realized that they had those RF connectors and of course modern tv's have no such thing.

so how do I get this thing connected? I don't recall if they had a cable hookup as well off the side.

I did a search of the forum to see if this was already answered and didn't see anything that specifically addressed it, but I'm at work and couldn't dig more than 5 minutes or so.

There are many threads on this, to sum up the 3 top answers

1 - if your tv can receive older channel3 signals, get an adapter from RCA to the coax threaded antenna connection

2 - use something such as an old VCR to convert the RF output of the Atart to Composite Video and Audio (Yellow, Red-White) connectors

3 - modify or have it modified for composite output (takes work and $$, but best picture)

because TVs back then only had a single input*. The switchbox they used was required so you could change between the Atari and the antenna.

* well, some of them had 2 - one input was for the antenna for VHF channels(2-13), the other was for the antenna for UHF channels(14+)
