venture? phoenix?

Recommended Posts

These were 2 of my favorite arcade games back in the day, and I know of no Atari 8-bit versions. And so I thought I'd ask - are there any clones of either of these games for the XL/XE?? Maybe something a hobbyist created at some point during the past 20 years?? By the way, I do know about Fortune Hunter (I think that's the name), which is based on Venture, but it's not very good.

I always wished Atari would have released Phoenix for the 800. Venture is a personal favorite and I am looking forward to trying that one out as well.

It's too simple.

2600 was the only legacy system to get Phoenix - I get the feeling Atari just wanted to snare it before Coleco could get their hands on it.

Plenty of clones on other machines but nothing I've played did much for me.

just wondering, since i haven't been able to find any new info myself.....have both of these projects (phoenix & venture) been abandoned, or can anyone point me to new info about either?

The guy working on Phoenix posts regular updates about what he's currently working on. It's an easy Google search.

There's a thread here on AA somewhere about Venture. Last I heard it was finished.

I've heard ports from the Apple ][ aren't all that hard and there's a nice clone of Phoenix there called Falcons.

Can't speak for myself, never tried to program for the 800.

I don't think Venture was finished.

The version I bought (and sent back) had a bug.

Looking forward to a finished Phoenix for the A8 as well. I remember Phoenix was one of the games i continued to go to the Arcade to play after I got an Atari.
