Atari 520 ste not working help!

Recommended Posts

I have recently bought an Atari 520ste from e bay.

It was working fine when i bought it but after a few times when switching on the power, the screen would not load up and the floppy drive light (top right) not working. The ste the power light (bottom left) is working fine so i asume that the power supply is o.k!

Anyway i bought a new Falcon 3.5" floppy drive from e bay and installed it. The drive seems to work fine and you can even hear it spinning but nothing loads on the screen.

To connect the Atari to the T.V i use an atari RGB/Scart lead, could the problem be that i need a driver for the new floppy drive or is there another fault that could becausing this problem?

Can anyone please give me any solutions to this problem?

David

Safest route: Unplug the machine from the wall. Take the machine apart, take the top case off and take the top metal RF shielding off. Carefully press down on all the socketed chips to reseat them. Good chance a chip has come partially up out of its socket.

Least Safe: Atari 4 inch drop. Pick the machine up (no need to take it apart) and drop it from about 4 inches above your desk back onto your desk. This will also reseat the chips. However this old machines are fragile so I wouldn't do this all that often.

Best bet is to take it apart and manually reseat the chips.

I might have found out the problem!

I contacted the ebayer that i bought the floppy drive from and he asked me if i had twisted the ribbon cable (fiiting the connector the other way round) when connecting it to the drive so here's hoping that it will work when i try and sort it out tommorrow.

It works!!!

I only need to get some games now!!

Great! Enjoy. Search out Obsession. A great pinball game made just for the STE.

Obsession is great. Stardust is another great "must have" STe title, if you can find it.

Look for STe enhanced games as well, like Zool, and don't forget about the STe

"Euro" style demo's and eyecandy. :)
