A_Locomotive #1 Posted October 19, 2011 (edited) So I just realized its been a while since I've added any new games to my TG16 library... and in fact aside from 2 games(Bonks Revenge and Ordyne) I traded for on here that are in the mail I haven't added any since I bought all my games in a big lot. So can anyone give some suggestions on some good fun games that can be had fairly cheaply? The games I've currently got are below. Alien Crush Bonk's Adventure Keith Courage in Alpha Zones The Legendary Axe Neutopia Pac-Land Space Harrier Veigues Tactical Gladiator Vigilante Edited October 19, 2011 by A_Locomotive
Rex Dart #2 Posted October 19, 2011 I don't know what Blazing Lazers costs, but you need it. Also, Ninja Spirit is cheap and is probably my favorite TG-16 title.
Chuck D. Head #3 Posted October 19, 2011 I am interested in this exact question also. All I have is Bonk, Keith Courage and Fantasy Zone. I had a chance to buy Veigues Tactical Gladiator for cheap, but the guy made the mistake of letting me try it first (control scheme=WTF?)
A_Locomotive #4 Posted October 19, 2011 I don't know what Blazing Lazers costs, but you need it. Also, Ninja Spirit is cheap and is probably my favorite TG-16 title. Its actually on my want list. I got screwed in the trade for my games as it was supposed to be included but the guy gave me and empty case. He claimed he forgot it in his TurboExpress and promised to mail it to me, needless to say it never happened. I'll look up Ninja Spirit, I've never heard of that one. That is the understatement of the year. lol Its such a wierd game to play. Doesn't help either that there is a lot you can't avoid in the game so you take damage like crazy, I've never made it past the 2nd level.
CGQuarterly #6 Posted October 20, 2011 Galaga '90 Devil's Crush Ninja Spirit Legendary Axe 2 World Class Baseball Blazing Lasers Power Golf That's all I can think of right now. I don't have my games in front of me. Chris
Reaperman #7 Posted October 20, 2011 Thumbing through my collection, it looks like I have Galaga--and then a bunch of other games that pretty well suck.
AtariLeaf #8 Posted October 20, 2011 I think JJ and Jeff can be had pretty cheaply. I don't really care for cartoony platformers personally, and even I really like this game.
Ghost Soldier #9 Posted October 20, 2011 Ordyne is a excellent shooter and can be had for cheap.
A_Locomotive #10 Posted October 20, 2011 Thanks for all the suggestions. Seeing as Blazing Lazers popped up a few times and I've got a spare case for it anyways I think I'll look into that one first. Ninja Spirt is next.
GKC #11 Posted October 20, 2011 I didn't see any mention of Bloody Wolf which I found good and is pretty cheap. I think I got my copy for less than $10 not too long ago.
Rex Dart #12 Posted October 20, 2011 Bloody Wolf's pretty fun, yeah. Also, Cyber Core came with my TG-16 and I thought it was fun, but I didn't have any other shooters for the system at the time so I don't know what my opinion's worth.
tpugmire #13 Posted October 21, 2011 Not sure how you feel about doing a region mod, but there are a bunch of pc engine games that are cheaper than their U.S. counterparts, even with shipping. Check out the various Bomberman games. R Type is a good cheap game too.

Likewise, it looks like someone purposely took a soldering iron and etched a way at the plastic on mine, so I wouldn't mind using it as a platform for experimenting like this too. tpugmire #16 Posted October 21, 2011 The mod is not too hard, lots of soldering though. The worst part about it is trying to get all the wires to fit back in the shell since there's not much room in there to begin with. I got my mod chip from a guy on pcenginefx.com and installed it myself. You'll also need a switch (easily obtained from radio shack) and a bunch of wire. Eltigro #17 Posted October 24, 2011 I got my Blazing Lazers for free. When I got my TG, it came with a coupon you could send in for a free game. Just cut off the UPC, check a box on a list of games, and send it off. Of course this was in the early 90's when the system was new. lol But it's definitely one I would suggest. shmups: Blazing Lazers, Raiden, R-Type platformers: Bonk's Revenge RPG: Neutopia II hack n slash: Ninja Spirit strategy: Military Madness sports: World Class Baseball, World Court Tennis (which is kind of a Tennis/RPG) pinball: Devil's Crush (kind of a sequel to Alien Crush, but with scrolling playfield and occult themed tables) racing: um... none? Not sure on costs on these, but they are some of my favorites based on genre.
A_Locomotive #18 Posted October 24, 2011 (edited) RPG: Neutopia II Not sure on costs on these Very expensive. Neutopia II is a game I REALLY want, I loved the first one. Sadly the prices it seem to go for are insane. Edited October 24, 2011 by A_Locomotive
CGQuarterly #19 Posted October 24, 2011 Neutopia II is about a $50 game. I don't think that's expensive as long as you're buying it to play it. 50 bucks is still cheaper than a new release. Chris

Chris Yea cheap and expensive are pretty relative terms. Im not really into RPGs so haven't gotten around to getting Neutopia yet but I did pick up Splatterhouss which costs more than I usually like to pay for a game but I already dumped money into the system itself so I justified buying it when I knew I would not only play it but play the heck out of it. I have no problem spending what I consider to be a lot of money on a game if I know I'll get my money's worth out of. CGQuarterly #21 Posted October 24, 2011 Yeah, and that was my point. $50 is fine as long as you are going to play through the game. Plus, you can then turn around and sell it for the same $50, so that in the end it costs you nothing. Chris

Chris If I could find it for that I wouldn't mind paying it but unfortunately when I see it for sale its usually more in the $75+ range which is just really hard to justify to myself atm. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fctg%2FNeutopia-II-TurboGrafx-16-1992-%2F56246475%3Frt%3Dnc%26_dmpt%3DVideo_Games_Games%26_pcategid%3D139973%26_pcatid%3D2%26_pdpal%3D1%26_trksid%3Dp5360.c0.m2000019
Skylark68 #23 Posted October 25, 2011 Before I got rid of my TG16, I really enjoyed Aeroblasters. It's a lot more fun with 2 people though. The slow plunge of your jet when it gets destroyed is hilariously awesome in my opinion. Bonk's Revenge was pretty fun and you already have Legendary Axe (the whole reason in owning a TG16 in my opinion).

I'll definitely check that one out, just added it to my want list. I've got a nice little list going. Thinking of possibly selling some stuff to give me some more spending money, haven't decided for sure yet but my Saturn may be on the chopping block. I got rid of my NES, TG16, and a few other systems to concentrate on my Odyssey 2, Intellivision, and 2600 collection. I decided I needed to focus on a smaller collection. If you don't already have one, I suggest picking up the Turbobooster or Turbobooster Plus for your machine. It really makes the audio a lot better. I think it was supposed to sharpen the graphics a bit too, but I didn't notice any difference.
