commadore vice emulator 128

Recommended Posts

Hi, I don't wish to sound a traitor, but I am wondering if any of you atarians out there have done what I am trying to do. I'm trying to load c64/c128 games on the 'vice' emulator so I can compare commadore games with atari ones as I really never have seen the c64 in action. Any help as to what I do with this emulator would be very appreciated.

i have vice installed, it was a royal pain in the... knee caps to set-up... you would probably be better off asking in the classic computer forum here on AA...

honestly, i personally felt it easier to just use my C128 or 128D...

(/me hopes this doesnt de-evolve into...)

sloopy.

Only setting up video capture in winvice 2.3 specifically was tricky (2.2 or lower has FFMPEG on vice download page).

extract zip, run x64.exe in extracted folder, drag n drop d64/t64/tap file on vice window....bingo :)

If a D64 doesn't load select 'true drive emulation' in options drop down menu.

1 - File

2 - Autostart disk/tape image

3 - Profit

Hi, thanks for your points, but what do you mean by the 3rd: 3. profit?

I find files on Planetemu.net work better than Gamebase64 (and are labelled sensibly)

True drive emulation is s-l-o-w like a real 1541.

as much as I like the C64 it doesn't feel like a full machine without an Action replay, so you might want to download a retro replay cartridge image and attach that so you have fastload and easier disk handling.

If you want to get deeper into the workings of any particular game to find out about how it works then it also has a machine code monitor and a few other tools that would help you in that respect too.

http://ar.c64.org/wiki/File:Action_Replay_binaries_rr.c64.org_2011-03.rar has various versions of the action replay (I have a V6 in my C64, but the retro replays have bugfixes and other features)
