An incredible Commodore 64 compilation!...

Recommended Posts

This looks awesome!: http://www.mobygames...dore-64-15-pack I only wish Activision would re-release it for Windows XP or 7. I think it would sell really well; I would definitely buy it because I never played any of these games on the Commodore 64.

You'd be better off just downloading the images and running them on a current emulator, the one bundled in that pack isn't particularly accurate.

True, although until recently, it was the only way to properly play Portal in emulation. People hadn't "cracked" it properly and it always screwed up down the line before...

Eh, I don't think Commodore 64 emulation is legal-at least, AFIK it's not like downloading Stella and some 2600 roms from this site. The Amiga kickstart roms are still copyrighted, and I don't know about the Commodore 64 roms.

The Kickstart roms are closely protected, but C64 game roms are readily available online, so I dont think they are still copyrighted, or at leasst the copyright is not being protected....

i suspect it's a case of the rights not being protected because nobody seems to know who owns the rights at this stage, but there's been several commercially available emulators despite that. If anyone has qualms then getting C64 Forever is probably the way to go, it's just VICE with a few extra bells and whistles but comes from Cloanto, who are the people protecting the Kickstart ROMs so they've presumably done their legal homework.

OK, C64 Forever sounds like a great deal, then. Thanks! In terms of C64 games that are on the Wii's Virtual Console, it's some publisher called Commodore Gaming. I have no idea who they are, or who is even in their company.

We-ell... it's just VICE with a front end, their own integrated image format as an option and a price tag really...

Chances are it's just a small operation licensing games from other people, Mayhem in Monsterland for example was licensed directly from the original developers, John and Steve Rowlands. i've no idea if they've got clearance for the ROMs their emulator needs.
