Any "over the counter" USB Joysticks that will work with Atari emulators?

Recommended Posts

I know about the Stelladapter and the USB Atari Joysticks I have seen online but are there any "over the counter" joysticks that serve the same purpose that can be picked up at Wal Mart or Radio Shack?

Thanks.

I haven't seen any at my local stores, but the one I ordered from Amazon.com works great, and it glows blue when it's plugged in.

Off hand, I'd say all of them. Any usb controller should work with any emulators. Problem is that there just aren't very many "joysticks" for sale at the big box stores for computers that aren't flightsticks, and everything else are gamepads.

It would take some legwork but you may have some luck at a local thrift store.

Would something like THIS thing work with Stella?

it should. i use this one for all my emulators including stella. http://www.geekstuff...pad-i-revo.html

Awesome! I have no problem playng Stella with the keyboard controls but my 5 year old has a hard time with it. I need something to help her enjoy it more.

In general, if your operating system can 'see' the device, then Stella can use it. Now there may be cases where the device needs to be mapped to certain actions within Stella, but as long as Stella can access a device, it can be remapped. About the only issue is paddle/analog-like controls. Stella doesn't yet include mapping for paddle axes. Note that this is strictly a UI thing; there's nothing in the code that precludes that action, but there's also no code in the UI where one can say 'map this analog axis rotation to paddle X'. This is something I'd like to add eventually, if someone is willing to donate hardware for me to implement it ...

If you just needed a gamepad, there are a million of those around. I assumed you were looking for more of a traditional joystick.

Either or would have worked. I saw the Atari Style on Amazon and they looked neat but this Radio Shack deal serves the Porpoise :)
