Electronic Table Top Games

Recommended Posts

Anyone got any advice on cleaning/restoring the old table top electronic games?

I have always had good luck cleaning all the electronics with rubbing alcohol. For finicky problems with the games... I have found a hot soldering iron and simply reflowing all the solder works wonders and fixes about 75% of the problems I encounter.

As for aesthetics, I generally use dish soap and a cotton rag to polish them up... you'd be amazed how much muck and guck gets on these games, especially the controls. For peeling stickers I generally use a light coat of rubber cement to hold them down. The hardest thing to handle is clouded and scratched screens. The plastic is usually pretty soft so you either have to live with it or use polishing compound... it will clean up the screens but will leave trillions of micro-scratches that you will not notice unless you are shining light on them.

Forgot to add that there is lots of help on game repairs at www.handheldmuseum.com If Rik there doesn't know, you can post on the forums and you will get lots of friendly help from the members there.
