Can someone direct me to XL UltraVideo mod?

Recommended Posts

I've been trying out different video mods on my 1200XL's, I've tried the SuperVideo 2.1 and Clearpic 2003 mods, both better to varying degrees than original video, but still looking for something better. Also, if anyone out there who has done a few of these mods and owns a Commodore 1084 monitor, can you suggest what has worked the best for you on that monitor?

I haven't yet found anything that made a 1200XL look good on my monitors... except a VBXE. I couldn't even test the 1200XL with my 1084S, since the monitor wouldn't sync to the NTSC colour carrier.

That's strange. I've used my 1084S with many systems, both 50 and 60Hz and have never had a problem with it in RGB, composite or chroma/luma modes. Of course the 50Hz were either my 1200XL with the PAL Antic (s-video), or running 50Hz euro software on my ST (RGB)...but they worked fine with it. Of course I'm assuning that the 1084's sold in North America and England/Europe were basically the same 50/60Hz monitors, just with corrosponding power sources that match the 120v/220v (or whatever it is over there) power outlets.

On my 1084S the clearpic mod I did on the 1200 looks pretty good, better than stock, and the SuperVideo looks very good, but hoping to find even better...

If you were to plug in a true PAL machine into either the composite or Luma/Chroma inputs of your 1084, you would most likely just get black and white. PAL Antic in an NTSC machine isn't 100% PAL.

RGB on the other hand doesn't matter. 50 or 60Hz like most RGB monitors will work just fine.

Thanks for the info thgill.

Now back on track...can anyone help me find this Ultra Video XL mod I'm reading about in other threads here, Searching has turned up anything except the current thread of the XE ultravideo mod.

I need a 1200XL version of the mod too, thanks.

I have an NTSC 1084S. It will display a PAL signal, but it does it in black&white (when using Y/C). This is using a PAL machine from the UK, not a modified NTSC unit. I would imagine RGB will work, because it is hitting the color guns directly, no demodulating the signal. Are you saying you get color from both NTSC & PAL when using Y/C?

I'm saying I have no trouble with Y/C color when running at 50Hz...with NTSC machines that have PAL parts or in RGB with PAL software. It will be interesting to see if my NTSC 1200XL with PAL Antic will still work on the 1084S once I install a PAL GTIA circuit. I may have to upgrade to a modern LCD screen at that point.

So...no can help with the UltraVideo mod link? Does it even exist or is the SuperVideo mod being called by the wrong name in the threads where "UltraVideo XL" has been mentioned?
