sandmountainslim #1 Posted November 5, 2011 I have seen lists of Greatest Atari 2600 games of all time but what would you rank as the best homebrews of the past decade? In no particular order my personal fav's (right now) would be: Ladybug Halo 2600 Caverns of Mars Starfire Evil Magician Returns Thrust + Platinum Edition K.O. Cruiser Fall Down Man Goes Down (unfinished) Redshirts (unfinished) Duck Attack Panky The Panda What about you?
Brian O #2 Posted November 5, 2011 Hard to argue w/ that list. I'd also add Juno First and Seaweed Assault to that list. -B

sandmountainslim #4 Posted November 5, 2011 Hard to argue w/ that list. I'd also add Juno First and Seaweed Assault to that list. -B Juno First I should have added to the list. I haven't played Seaweed Assault since it's earliest build. I shall have to load up the final bin and give it a try!
rolenta #5 Posted November 5, 2011 Not that it has anything to do with this topic, but he's a history of homebrews that I wrote for Gamespot in 2000. http://web.archive.org/web/20000815235024/http:/videogames.gamespot.com/features/universal/new_blood/

VectorGamer #10 Posted November 5, 2011 (edited) If a home brew is "unfinished" I don't see how that can qualify. Assuming that it's 2600 titles only, I'll go with Thrust+, Lady Bug, Sea Wolf, Juno First & Medieval Mayhem Edited November 5, 2011 by rmaerz
sandmountainslim #11 Posted November 5, 2011 If a home brew is "unfinished" I don't see how that can qualify. They are 100% playable and very well known (especially MGD) so I Include them at the state they are in because in all probability they will never be finished. I wish MGD could be completed. It's a very fun game. Does anyone know what happened to the guy who made it? -B

Brian O #14 Posted November 5, 2011 He either passed away or is in a coma from what I remember on the speculation thread a couple years ago. Oh, man. That's horrible. I hope that's not the case -B
Shawn #15 Posted November 5, 2011 I think Edtris is more than 10 years old, though. Oh ya your right! I think gunfight is getting close to the decade mark also. Man the time just keeps slipping away on me...lol..
sandmountainslim #16 Posted November 5, 2011 I think Edtris is more than 10 years old, though. Edtris is now a 16 year old videogame!! Time do fly!
ntavio #17 Posted November 6, 2011 Medieval Mayhem! Definitely Medieval Mayhem and Halo 2600.
Fr0st #18 Posted November 6, 2011 Thrust+ for me, and Swoops. Need to pick up a copy of Medieval Mayhem.
Amstari #19 Posted November 6, 2011 Boulderdash, only the two level demo is currently available but the full game will be released soon. My other favorites are: Fall Down Stay Frosty (from Stella's Stocking) Dungeon Ladybug ... and lots more!
StanJr #20 Posted November 6, 2011 Dungeon Seawolf Lady Bug Ature (short, but pretty damn sweet)

He either passed away or is in a coma from what I remember on the speculation thread a couple years ago. The author had a brain hemorrhage, but survived it. However, he seems to have basically withdrawn from the scene since then, though I know he was contacted in 2009 about giving permission to reproduce overlays for one of his Vectrex games (which he did give). He hasn't been responsive, AFAIK, to any inquiries about MGD. As for me, if I had to pick just ten games: AStar Duck Attack Fall Down Hunchy II Incoming Lady Bug Man Goes Down (unfinished or not it's still one of the very best) Medieval Mayhem Strat-O-Gems Deluxe Thrust+ Platinum But then there's Lead, and Dungeon, and many others besides. The upcoming Boulder Dash will no doubt deserve a spot too, but that's really from this decade.

I've gone about as far as I can in trying to contact him, even sending a physical letter. Unfortunately, I haven't received a response to any of my inquiries. ..Al
Xot #23 Posted November 6, 2011 Surprised at the lack of love for SCSIcide, Warring Worms, and Go Fish! here. Other favorites of mine are Star Fire, LadyBug, and Juno First. Also a big fan of Skeleton+ and Oystron, but those might be beyond the 10 year mark.
