How To config Stella to Joypad

I have a Gigaware joypad from Radio Shack that I am now using on the Stella emulator.

As default button 1 is fire and both the thumbstick and direction pad works correctly.

 

My question is how do I configure "reset" and the dificulty switches etc to the other buttons on the gamepad?

This is almost directly from the manual:

 

Go to Options ->Input Settings -> Emul. Events

Click on 'Select', 'Reset', or whatever event you want

Click on the 'Map' button to the right

As soon as it says 'Select action for xxx event', press a button on the keyboard or joypad device

Stella should now recognize the action/event from that point on

Repeat as required for other actions/events

 

Note that if you decide to cancel mapping, do it by CLICKING CANCEL, not by pressing Escape. In the latter case, you'll simply have mapped the Escape key instead.

thanks Stephen . got it all set up now and it's MUCH easier than using keyboard controls.
