I'm playing a game of Phantasy Star II and recording everything that happens in text (who has time for a let's play of this game, seriously).

Thought you guys might be interested.

Also, I recently completed The Clash at Demonhead for the NES (Scott Pilgrim band was named after the game, yes), and I drew some sketches of the characters and scanned my hand-drawn map, NPC hints, etc.

What Genesis or NES games have you guys been playing in the last month or so? Or, if it's been longer, when was it and what games?

I beat PS II a long long time ago. IIRC the game was fairly easy once you used the thief girl to steal the device that lets you save your game anywhere (visiphone) and all those resurrection medicines 9too bad she sucked in combat, I liked her). It was only the last dungeon that was difficult, and even then it was more tedious than anything else. The ending was interesting though.

I got about half way through III before getting board and never did touch IV. I need to play through them all again some time.

if you can play import PlayStation 2 games, the Phantasy Star Collection is fantastic. You can play both japanese and english versions of all four games, you can change the difficulty (you get more exp and meseta per battle, making grinding a bit less tedious), and you can change the walking speed of the characters.

as for PS2, the dungeons can be pretty brutal without a map.

My impressions exactly. Getting the visiphone is the only unfair part of the game. Go ahead and look at a faq for that. Otherwise, it's just a matter of putting in the time into traversing mazes while getting attacked every 15 seconds.

I really liked the setting and plot of Phantasy Star II. The combat is completely braindead though.

Mind you, I should say I played the Phantasy Star games years after they came out (either on emulation or on the Phantasy Star Collection for GBA) so my impressions may be diferent then someone who did them BITD.

The games are fun, but not as good as the Final Fantasy's. But they do have some awsome music and PS4 was a great game.

The original Phantasy Star is a cool game for it's time, PS 2 is a grinding exercise, PS 3 is very cool with the changes in generations and all that, and PS4 is a great game all around.

Clash at Demonhead is a great game I loved BITD and still has a lot of charm today. Good music, cool weapons, fun gameplay.

I have Phantasy Star Collection for the Gameboy Advance. I have PSIII separately for my Genesis. I also have Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for my 360.

I still have never finished a Phantasy Star game.

A slightly related question, does anyone have Phantasy Star Online for the Dreamcast? Is it worth it to get it for the offline mode?

Began playing Phantasy Star 4 via emulation recently. Very good so far. Tried to play Phantasy Star 2 several times before on different systems, but could never get into it.

I also played an English-patched Phantasy Star Adventures for Game Gear a few months back. It's ok, but it had the potential to be so much more.
