LinkoVitch #1 Posted November 10, 2011 Whilst at ReplayExpo at the weekend, I was trying to show that Jaguar coding was still alive and not impossible with my (sh3's) trusty SkunkBoard... So over the course of 8 hours in a noisy event hall with stuff going on and cute cosplayers and gamer girls wandering around I threw together a quick simple screen. It is running with the Jag in 640x400 interlace mode, playing a 4 channel tracker mod at 28.8kHz (entirely in DSP, not using sinister player). The code for the scroller, fading and sprite movement was all written by myself at the event, hence it's not perfect and a bit ropey I have uploaded the video to YouTube so people can have a watch.. I'll be uploading the actual screen binary to our website at some point soon (when I get a minute ).. Nothing too impressive, but hopefully something to read and some nice music
+GroovyBee #2 Posted November 10, 2011 I is famous! I was hoping to do some 8-bit goodness at the show but we didn't have the space .
Serblander #3 Posted November 10, 2011 Fantastic Linko!! Just watched the whole thing and it put a big smile on my face! Very reminiscent of the 'Scrolly Wars' during the 16-Bit days. Reminds me of the old demoscene and cracking groups on the Atari ST (those naughty boys! ). It was great to read through it all and i really loved the tunes! Hats off to the nice (and spontaneous) surprise. So how complicated is something like this to create? I have never coded anything (apart from some copied out magazine codes of BASIC on my XEGS back in the day ) but i would love to give something like this a crack (pun intended), especially now that i am expecting a SunkBoard3 from the stork in the mail any day now... LinkoVitch #4 Posted November 10, 2011 Groovy it was a shame I didn't bump into you sooner! would have loved a good dev natter at least. And to see how your photoshopping is coming along :D serb. It's not actually that bad, having a good understanding of how computers actually work probably helps. I have never tried any of the C stuff for the Jag, but I have been dabbling with ASM since my teenage years. There seems to be a growing number of people interested in coding the beast, so it will hopefully get easier as time goes on. My advice would be to play with it a bit at a time, get something simple working 1st and then build on that, build up your library of knowledge and routines a bit then start trying to write something more ambitious. Good luck with it

That screen of yours is the jump-start inspiration!
