+wood_jl #1 Posted November 13, 2011 (edited) OK, ST people. trivia time, here. Reason for confusion? I was under the impression that by the time they (Atari) went to the 1/3-height floppy drive (small parallelogram eject button as you'll see pictured below), they were into the 1040STfm. This is the drive that's seen in the 1040STe. Also, the power/floppy LEDs of the 1040STfm and 1040STe seem to be green, and accompany the last-revision floppy drive. Well, that was my "conventional" wisdom, which I don't know to be accurate, and now it seems it is not. Here is a 1040STf for auction.......(pics included for reference, since you know this message will last longer than the listing will) eBay Auction -- Item Number: 130600752840 Note that the floppy led (seen in the pic, under the 1040STf badge) - although it is not illuminated - appears to be green (definitely ain't red). So, obviously, they moved to green LEDs and 1/3-height drives, BEFORE moving to 1040STfm? Really? I've seen (and looked at) a lot of pics, but I've never seen a 1040STf with green LEDs and 1/3 height drive. What gives? If have a 1040STF (no Modulator) with green led and the same floppy drive (with parallelogram shaped eject button) as on the pictures. No idea when I bought it but it has TOS 1.02. I've seen 1040STF with red leds here but those had TOS 1.0. So maybe when moving to TOS 1.02, they also changed the led color to green. Robert

Maybe it would make sense to use that drive because by that time wasn't that the same drive they were using in the Mega models?
Fox-1 / mnx #5 Posted November 14, 2011 because by that time wasn't that the same drive they were using in the Mega models? All I know is that my MegaSTe's have the drives with the small eject button and a green LED. I have a few of those drives laying around (N.O.S.) and at least one of them has an orange/amber LED. (and no, it's not a weird shade of red, or yellow.)
31336haxx0r #6 Posted November 26, 2011 My recently acquired 1040STf has the parallelogram shaped eject button. The drive LED is amber-ish.
