+davidcalgary29 #1 Posted January 10, 2003 I've just received a Mega STe 4. When booted, the computer freezes after four bombs appear during the hard drive boot-up. Is the hard drive toast? In addition, I don't yet have a keyboard (to arrive later) for the system. The computer currently "freezes" (e.g. mouse won't move) at the GEM desktop screen. Can the computer boot without a keyboard, or is it possible that I have some other problem with the system?
Goochman #2 Posted January 10, 2003 I think it needs to keyboard - not 100% sure, but I believe so
sonnenhexer #3 Posted January 10, 2003 AFAIK the computer must be complete, so you need a keyboard. The "bombs" are error-messages. The more the worst. But 4 is not so worse. Michael
Paolo #4 Posted January 11, 2003 Hey, where did you plug your mouse? MSTE has the mouse port IN the keyboard! Maybe you should check this. Please note that serial mice won't work unless a piece of software. Regards
+davidcalgary29 #5 Posted January 11, 2003 I plugged the mouse in "serial port #2" at the back...did I stick something up the wrong port?
Paolo #6 Posted January 11, 2003 Yup! But don't worry. Nothing on Atari ST really breaks That port is for serial devices as Modems or serial printers, ... or mice, but with a particular driver, to say it in PC terms. It's a little program to execute in the auto folder that recognise the mouse plugged in serial2 and use it. I suspect that your problem is in the boot sequence. maybe a program went ruined and you should "clear-boot" the thing. Does it crash after the atari logo?
