WW2 Shooters. Have any been made recently?

Recommended Posts

So at the moment I've got this real craving to play a good WW2 shooter. The other day I tried installing my old PC copy of the very first Call of Duty and just couldn't get it working with windows 7. It used to be at least 1 was made every year for quite some time but now I never hear about any. I know of Red Orchestra 2 and will get it eventually but I'm really only looking for a single player game at the moment. So does anyone know of any recent WW2 shooters I should check out?

Honestly I think most people are sick of them and that's why they slowed down so much... myself personally will be happy to never play one ever again... I mean come on we all know how they're gonna end, haha

Haha I know I got sick of them for a while as well but its been so long since I've played one I feel its time to again. I'm a history nut and I love games that cover older wars, heck I'd be happy with any sort of shooter that isn't either futuristic or modern. To me modern shooters are getting far more stale then WW2 games ever got. At least with WW2 there were a great many theaters they can take place in. Where as seemingly all modern shooters are stuck in the middle east. :/

Current events, what can ya do?

Yeah I know but its still boring none the less to me. At least come up with something more then generic extremist group has nuke/chemical weapon and is gonna set it off unless we find and disarm it and kill their leader.

You could always mix things up and play Necrovision. It's one that's set in WWII (or is it the first World War?), with a demonoid kind of twist. ;)

Its the first World War, I've actually been thinking about getting this one. A WWI shooter is something I've always wanted to see, even though this isn't exactly what I'd like I still like the concept. I held off when I first read about it due to its so so reviews. But seeing as its pretty damn cheap now I think I'll bite. :P I love alternative history games. Just a shame that most end up being shit. lol Last really cool one in concept I saw was Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. It looked and sounded like a really cool game, Nazi's are winning WWII and invade New York with super hi-tech weapons and zeppelin air battle ships. I rented it and it was so bad I actually returned it the same day and asked for my money back.... lmao on a freaking rental! It was that bad!

To be honest, I haven't given it much time myself, even though I've had it for over two years now. I've been slowly crawling my way back to PC first person shooters, so maybe I will install it and try it again.

Turning point:Fall of liberty was a great idea, horribly executed. There is still a couple dozen WW2 shoters out there. Cod 2, 3, WAW. Medal of honor series, Wolfenstien..etc

If you want something a little different, check out Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway. It's an FPS, but you control an entire squad that is broken up into 3 teams usually. A bazooka team, a machine gun team etc... You direct them where to set up and lay down suppressing fire so you can move around with out getting killed. It's almost like a puzzle sometimes. One of my favorite WWII shooters.

It's not as good as the first two games, but I'll add a suggestion for Hell's Highway.

I'm sure we'll see a rise in WWII related games again in the future. It's hard to imagine any military theme being more ripe for creative ideas than that setting.

Yes, Brother in Arms, Hell's Highway is great. Takes place in my back garden. Living near Eindhoven and Son. Some of the campaigns take place there.

I'm also a history nut, and Love WWII games. I don't care to much on modern day fps. But will play them because of the drying up on WWII games.

For PS3 you could add Battlefield 1943 to you're list. Is't a revamped 1942, with only 5 maps or so, but every thing can be destroyed.
