phattyboombatty #101 Posted January 19, 2012 I'm planning to make a layout for a CBS box for Turbo. I have already made a try : http://www.colecoboxart.com/colecovision_fakes.htm I will put it online available for everybody when it will be completely finished. That is totally awesome! The U.S. release version is authentically true-to-form with minor improvements over the DK box. Can't wait to get pics of these up! Maybe we can collaborate regarding U.S. and European distributions. phattyboombatty #102 Posted January 20, 2012 Question for you guys: Would you rather have the original "hanger" flap added onto the top of the box, or leave it off? I chose to leave it off with DK for logistical reasons (i.e., they won't be hung at Toys 'R Us). What do you think? I'll be taking pre-orders soon. Cheers! +Ransom #103 Posted January 20, 2012 I don't need the hanger flap, but is it possible to make the flap so that it inserts into the box to keep it closed, like the original boxes did?
RelliK111 #104 Posted January 20, 2012 What happen to Power Lords Did that get pushed back or are you still planning on doing that?
phattyboombatty #105 Posted January 20, 2012 What happen to Power Lords Did that get pushed back or are you still planning on doing that? Fear not! Power Lords is still in the mix! Going to move forward with other Coleco-branded designs while I perform some more testing with printing on the silver foil backing.
phattyboombatty #106 Posted January 20, 2012 I don't need the hanger flap, but is it possible to make the flap so that it inserts into the box to keep it closed, like the original boxes did? Ransom-- I haven't seen any Coleco-branded boxes that had a flap tuck inside the box. The Coleco boxes from which I have modeled mine came glued to the top inside flap, with an extra folded "hanger" with a center punched hole for aisle stocking. I know the Atari and Atarisoft boxes had the flap like you're describing.
NIAD #107 Posted January 20, 2012 Great to see that you decided to tackle another game that never had a box produced for it and hoping that Super Action Baseball and Slither will eventually get the treatment as well. No hanger flap needed.

So, in that case, yes, a hanger flap would be nice...if I can tuck it in like the originals.
Yurkie #109 Posted January 21, 2012 People used to tear off the back flap, and then tuck the 2nd front flap that had the hanger hole die cut into it, inside the box.
+Ransom #110 Posted January 21, 2012 People used to tear off the back flap, and then tuck the 2nd front flap that had the hanger hole die cut into it, inside the box. That's what I do. Am I committing a sin by tearing off that perforated flap?

phattyboombatty #112 Posted January 26, 2012 Thought you all might appreciate a little preview of what's on the hot plate for my next round... Don't worry... I'll start a new thread soon! P.S. Thanks to RelliK111 for his excellent suggestion on my next box design! A little sneak preview of a prototype... Thinking of making a solid box instead of the center cut-out.

phattyboombatty #114 Posted January 27, 2012 WOW! Your going to make a lot of people very happy about that box... especially Relik111. Thanks! I know, it came out pretty good, right? As long as I can secure a good price on the foil card stock, we'll be good to go for a run!

phattyboombatty #122 Posted January 27, 2012 Thanks guys for all the encouragement and kindness! I will start a pre-order list in Marketplace as soon as I get some more testing underway... As I mentioned, I need a reliable, low-cost supplier for the silver foil card stock, and I'm also doing some testing with a new UV-protective coating. I really want to make a near-exact likeness of the original Probe 2000 box so that I can print the other Probe 2000 unreleased. *hint hint*.

RelliK111 #125 Posted February 8, 2012 I was also wondering, I couldn't tell from the pictures on the back on the box, your not going to put "authentic replica package" on the Power Lords box like it was on the Donkey Kong box. On the Donkey Kong it was important to have that due to the fact that there was a original box already made, but with Power Lords your box will be the original so there would be no reason to have that on there
