South Park RPG, 10 years too late?

Recommended Posts

Was reading about the new South Park RPG in production. While it sounds pretty cool and Matt and Trey are intimately involved in the production process, I have to wonder if this game isn't coming WAY past its prime?

Is there sufficient interest among the current generation of gamers to warrant this release? Look how well the Simpsons Game did for this generation of consoles (snore).

South Park seems synonymous with the PSX and N64 its original games were developed for, is there cause for a new SP game?

Sounds kinda cool, but definitely waaaaay late. Reminds me of how Hollywood would finally get around to making out of popular video games years after their prime. Strange. Very strange.

I'd say its not to late since as has ben pointed out its still popular and they are still cranking out amazing episodes but its definitely late in the aspect that its long past the peak of its popularity.

The show's still popular enough for a game, and the series has picked up a lot of assets that wouldn't have been around 10 years ago.

I was reading the Game Informer piece on this one today and it seems like a good formula. Turn based RPG with a new silent protagonist, and the show is more directly involved with the game's design than previous games. It has a formula that *could* be a winner for me, but I won't be in that preorder line.

Not a lot of turn-based RPG's these days, and I've been wanting one. Especially one that puts a different spin on the "standard fantasy setting," which I typically don't enjoy. (I've got some extreme racial prejudice against dwarves, orcs and everything that carries a pointy stick and lives on a shire)

Not too late at all, show still popular and some of the best episodes have been over the last couple seasons..........

Absolutely. If anything Trey and Matt's writing has gotten better over the years.

If a game is good, then it doesn't matter if the source material seems dated. Heck, give me a good Star Trek game featuring the original crew (Kirk, Spock, McCoy) and I'll be interested in it, IF it's a good game.

The show itself has lost it's appeal over the years, I seriously doubt I'll be interested in the game at this point (not that I really considered the games in the 64 era "good" to start with, just riding the "known and popular" wagon)

While I think it's well past it's prime, even though South Park is no where near as popular as what it was in the first 2 seasons, the new episodes just keep getting better and better. I love the show, and I think it stays current. I think I'd pass up on the game though, unless it's actually Chinpokomon.

I watched South Park for about 4, maybe 5, seasons. After a while, it just didn't feel funny anymore. I know people are saying the later stuff is better, but I lost interest.

I could use some good old turn-based RPGing, though. The description I've read kinda sounds like Earthbound on meth. I could see this hitting my shelf fairly soon after release.

Not at all too late. South Park is still great and very popular. People questioned the Simpsons movie having come out so many years into the series and it was a hit.
