HatefulGravey #1 Posted December 29, 2011 I have 2 Street Fighter 2 JAMMA boards I need to get tested. They power up and play sounds and such but there is no picture. Before I spend time and money on a monitor or repairs I would like to get a trusted member with a SuperGun to test these boards for me. The way I was thinking about this is I would ship the boards to you and pay return shipping as well or coarse, if you will test them for me pretty good and send a picture of two of them work if they do work I would be more then happy to tip you for your effort in this. Saves me from buying a SuperGun just for this and chips into the cost of yours. The pictures will be used if I have to sell these boards in the event that repairing the monitors isn't worth the cost and/ or trouble. Please reply here or PM if you would be interested in my offer. +save2600 #2 Posted December 29, 2011 (edited) two jamma boards and neither output video? Game plays blind? I wouldn't waste my time sending boards to and fro. I'd assume a bad monitor or bad video connection for sure. You don't have any other Jamma boards to verify this? Two bad boards, both not displaying video sounds awfully incredulous to me. I have a real Street Fighter II machine I could test them in, but seems like an awful lot of trouble. Since you have a Supergun thing, are you absolutely sure it's wired properly? Did it ever output video? How old is the monitor you have hooked to it? Do you have another 15khz monitor laying around? Supergun #3 Posted December 29, 2011 I would agree. What are the chances you have two bad boards, and they both have the same exact problem; no video. I would be suspect of your video source, your video connection cables, and/or your rgb decoder.
Blackbag #4 Posted December 29, 2011 If you still want to test, drop me a PM. I live in GA too (NW Metro Atlanta) and I have a couple of working JAMMA candy cabs I can test in, and I have a working SFII Turbo board to compare it to if need be. HatefulGravey #5 Posted December 29, 2011 I don't have a SuperGun right now, I have 2 cabs. I'm actually having a bit of trouble trying to get into them enough to get the boards out. I'm hitting up the web for a way to get to the damned board. I feel certain its the monitor in one way or another, but I would like to be sure before I spend real money on that. The monitors look like they are the original monitors, so they could have been there since 92. Everything I can see in the small opening in the back looks clean and safe, but I can't be sure. More digging to come and more information will be unearthed I'm certain. Blackbag, I'm going to be in your area soon enough so we might be able to work something out there for sure. How bad is replacing this monitor going to be if it gets to that point? Should I just be looking at the newer LCD replacements or something like that? +save2600 #6 Posted December 29, 2011 (edited) Check out www.happcontrols.com for modern LCD replacements, but they are not cheap. www.arcadeshop.com usually has/had great pricing on CRT's though. Edited December 29, 2011 by save2600
Supergun #7 Posted December 30, 2011 sorry, i misread the thread, thought you had a supergun, not a cabinet. those must be dynamo sf2 cabins, (with only a small door on the back) access the boards this way: open the top coin door, reach up and look for 3 latches, one on the left, one on the right, one in the center, reach for them through the holes in the wooden trey that the board sits on. release the 3 latches and then the control panel (hinged) will rotate down and then you will be able to see inside. next, look on the top of that wooden trey and on each side (left & right) lift up the locking pins that secure the wooden trey in place. now, simply slide up and forward (bending at an angle along the way) and the trey will come forward and rest horizontally. and then you can slide it closer to you and have full access to remove the sf2 board if need be. just check the boards jamma edge connector and make sure that the video cables (R,G,B, Ground, Sync) are all connected and not sniped or pulled out. then, if that fails, since you say you have sound and game plays blind, we know your power supply is ok, so then it must be the monitor at that point. (or the other end of the video cable that plugs into the terminal on the monitor board). btw, with the power on (be careful of course) do the following: turn out all the lights in the room (make it dark) and with that back panel door open, look at the neck of the picture tube (the tiny section towards the very back that connects to the neck board) and tell me if you see an orange glow (rastar). this will tell us if your monitor board is faulty. most likely,it is a 25" wells gardner K7000, again assuming you have the standard 1991/92 dynamo cabine and it has not been modified (swapped out) by someone in the past. Melissa Melville #8 Posted December 30, 2011 I have to agree with the above posters. It sounds like the game is playing blind and without a doubt it is the monitor or monitor connection. If it's not the connection to the monitor, I would then check the fuse on your monitor chassis. It's best to troubleshoot the easy stuff first. How savvy are you with arcade repair? Do you know what wires should be connected to the monitor? If I have time today at the office I will shoot some pics for you. It may take me the weekend. Feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any other questions
HatefulGravey #9 Posted December 31, 2011 I'm not too savy with arcade repair as I have never done it. I'm ok with electronics and understand the danger with an arcade monitor however so atleast I can be safe about this. I'll get to all the information provided ASAP and update what I know. Thanks for the information on how to get into the cab to get the board. I knew there had to be something different about these things. I'll post some picutres as soon as I can so we can all be aware of the cab I'm dealing with. Thanks for the information.
