SlowCoder #1 Posted December 30, 2011 I'm seriously considering getting this wheel. It's gotten good reviews over all, and appears to be fairly well priced (at least within my budget). I was wondering who else might have one, what games do you use it with? I'm also drooling over the new G27, which I think is simply a remodelled G25, though I've never used either. Why am I drooling? I love manual transmissions. Mesh of the clutch and 5-speed shifter is just plain fun! The fact that this controller has a 5-speed shifter and clutch is a big bonus to me. But is it all worth the extra moolah/dough/cash/cha-ching (around $100) to get the G27? I've looked at the game compatibility list for both wheels, and all of the titles that are important to me are listed.
Reaperman #2 Posted December 30, 2011 (edited) I faced a similar question a while ago deciding between the Driving Force and G25. I ended up going G25 because I had heard a lot of horror stories about the life expectancy of the Driving Force's feedback mechanism--especially from people who ended up going with the G25 afterward anyway. There is no doubting the build quality on the g27. Leather-wrapped metal wheel and two extremely powerful feedback motors. If I were doing it again, I wouldn't base the decision off of the shift gate, though that was another big part of my initial G25 decision. Support for fully manual transmissions is pretty bad in console games, and there's no feedback from the clutch pedal (naturally). I found myself missing a lot of shifts in GT5, or when I was being extremely careful about it, dealing with slow shifts. So when I'm going for time, I go for sequential. IIRC, driving force doesn't have paddles, and G27 (unlike G25) does not do sequential on the stick. Maybe that helps the decision process? Also these days, Fanatec should really be considered, as many of their models have xbox 360 functionality. Last gen I had a horrible Fanatec, but they've come a long way. SlowCoder #3 Posted January 5, 2012 Well, I went ahead and got the Driving Force GT wheel. While I'd have loved to have the G27, it's just not in the budget right now. I figure, I'll play with this one for a while, and upgrade when I have a bit more money. I'm pretty happy with my purchase. It took me about an hour to get the hang of the wheel, when I've been using the normal PS3 controllers for so long. Over the last couple of days, I've been playing Gran Turismo 5, and I've definitely noticed a difference in my drive lines and stability between the regular controller, and the wheel.
