DemonoidTentacle #1 Posted January 1, 2012 (edited) Looking at getting into some more games with similar gameplay to that of Another World. The only others that I can think of are Flashback, Abe's Oddysee, and Abe's Exodus. I guess I'll say Prince of Persia, too. All of these games rock. What other quality titles should I be looking at? EDIT: To please my american friends I'll also say Out of this World (Another World) EDIT2: Forgot about Heart of Darkness. fiddlepaddle #2 Posted January 1, 2012 (edited) Just tried it on SNES for the first time (also have it on Genesis, but it's hard to get to at the moment). Got past those poison slugs (or whatever they are), haven't got past the bear yet. I remember Oddworld and Prince of Persia, both of which I like as well. Thanks for the recommendation. Have you tried Tomb Raider? .................... edit: Oh yeah, similar but different: "ONE" on PS1. Edited January 1, 2012 by fiddlepaddle
DemonoidTentacle #3 Posted January 1, 2012 Got past those poison slugs (or whatever they are), haven't got past the bear yet. The black wolf bear thing used to freak me out. I've never beaten the game. I refuse to look at a walkthrough for it. The main problem I have is when I have to get past some dude much later on in the game. He's got these grenade things or something. Anyway, because there's so much on the screen the game heavily lags and character control just goes right out the window. Forgot about Tomb Raider. I dug the first 2. They seemed to get more action orientated as the series went along. I've never come across One for the PSX, I might track down some gameplay footage and check it out. +RevEng #4 Posted January 1, 2012 Looking at getting into some more games with similar gameplay to that of Another World. How about its sequel, Heart of the Alien?
DemonoidTentacle #5 Posted January 1, 2012 Looking at getting into some more games with similar gameplay to that of Another World. How about its sequel, Heart of the Alien? I never gave Heart of the Alien a chance back in the day. I really snobbed it. I want to give it a chance though.
Hatta #6 Posted January 1, 2012 Try Project Firestart on the C64.
goldenegg #7 Posted January 1, 2012 Definitely check out Blackthorne. It's available on multiple platforms.
+thegoldenband #8 Posted January 2, 2012 I haven't played it, but Limbo seems like it could be worthy of this lineage:
DemonoidTentacle #9 Posted January 2, 2012 I haven't played it, but Limbo seems like it could be worthy of this lineage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI68FVClQXM Funnily enough I was just over at a mates place and he had just downloaded the demo on his PS3. I really dug it so I recon I'll have to get the full game for the 360.
Austin #10 Posted January 2, 2012 I haven't played it, but Limbo seems like it could be worthy of this lineage: Definitely so. I picked this one up during the Halloween season and it's definitely filled with a lot of trial and error like in Out of This World, more so than other slightly-similar games like Flashback or Prince of Persia. And it has some creepy ways to die, too, like Out of This World.
Drixxel #11 Posted January 3, 2012 One that comes to mind is Generations Lost on Genesis/Mega Drive, it's more elaborately platformy but there's definitely puzzle solving going on. Plus, it has the familiar sort of duck-and-roll mechanic. I second the recommendation for Blackthorne, it controls a lot like Flashback but the atmosphere is considerably darker and gunplay has more of a role.
