This month, April 2021, we are giving away, courtesy of Exxos's Online Store,  an H4-1 ST replacement motherboard.

This is a vastly improved and re-engineered version of the ST's original MB  design.

Please be aware that this is very much a "DIY" type project and the winner will be responsible for finishing the board.

So please don't enter unless you're serious (and not someone who just wants to resell the prize!).

Here is the link to the item at the store:

https://www.exxoshost.co.uk/atari/store2/#0035

And here is the message thread detailing the board and how to finish it:

https://www.exxoshost.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2229

Good luck to everyone and remember you can't win if you don't call! :)

*Due to a misunderstanding (and I accept full responsibility for the error) The DarkForce! BBS

is NOT giving away a 2nd H4 motherboard for this month, May 2021. I apologize for the error

and any inconvenience or falsely raising expectations...  :(

Okay, DarkForce is going to be offline for (hopefully only) a few hours. I'm attempting to do that small audio mod

I'd posted about in all the forums. I'm not good at reading schematics - they make my head hurt! so it might be a while.

Afterwards, assuming (dangerous!) that all goes well and I've not burnt the house down or destroyed my Mega ST4,

then I'm going to do backups.

Keeping my fingers crossed, should be back online later this evening.

Thanks all and sorry for any inconvenience.  :)

I was unable to complete the mod at this time. I need more information. Until I

can get that information, I'm putting DarkForce back up, albeit in a semi-disassembled

state.  :)

As soon as I get the information I'll be taking it offline again to complete the mod and

then back online...

Thanks everyone and sorry for any inconvenience.

Just wanted to announce that I've switched The DarkForce! BBS from using a Lantronix UDS-10

to a WiModem 232.

https://www.cbmstuff.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=59_66&product_id=60%3f

This means that we are now using "raw" for translation instead of "telnet".

We've tested with multiple setups and uploading and downloading seems to be fully functional

again.

If you're using Windows 7, Windows 10, MacOS, Kubuntu Linux, etc, then SyncTerm is one of,

if not the best choices for calling in.

https://syncterm.bbsdev.net/

If you're using an Atari ST, then TAZ, STalker, ANSITerm, Freeze Dried Terminal and Flash have

all been successfully used.

People from the 8bit community have reported their setups working fine as well (just remember

to use 80 columns for the best results).

If you're currently calling in with a WiModem 232, then just make sure that your translation is

set to "raw" as well. Just do an "at*t0" (that's the default anyway) and save with "at&w".

If you're using a Lantronix UDS-10, then you can use the following settings to put it into "raw"

mode:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*** Lantronix Universal Device Server ***
Serial Number xxxxxxx  MAC address xxxxxxxxxxx
Software version V5.8.0.5 (060724) LTX
Password :
Press Enter for Setup Mode

*** basic parameters
Hardware: Ethernet Autodetect

*** Channel 1

Port 10001
Connect Mode : 56
Auto increment source port disabled
Remote IP Adr: --- none ---, Port 00000
Disconn Mode : 81
Flush   Mode : 00

*** Expert
TCP Keepalive    : 45s
ARP cache timeout: 600s
Monitor Mode @ bootup : enabled
HTTP Port Number : 80

Change Setup:
  0 Server
  1 Channel 1
  5 Expert
  6 Security
  7 Factory defaults
  8 Exit without save
9 Save and exit            Your choice ?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks everyone (and a big thanks to everyone who's helped

with testing and advice/suggestions during our changeover).

This month, November 2021, at the DarkForce! BBS we are giving away a free copy of:

Prince of Persia!

Box exterior is a little rough but the floppy disk and manual are in good shape. I'm also

including a CD of P.Pera's HD adapted versions (there are 3) of the game.

Great Atari ST game, good luck to all, and thanks for calling.  :)
