pocketmego #1 Posted January 4, 2012 Do game companies have the right to control how we choose to play our games? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8omr-IA-R8 Should we allow them such power?
madmax2069 #2 Posted January 4, 2012 (edited) Yeah, the users took advantage of a in game exploit, they should have been banned. that is not game industry fascism. Any gamer knows that if you use a exploit in a online game and get caught at it then you will be perm banned or temp banned. The company is fully in the right, I would have done the same. http://www.shacknews.com/article/71794/bioware-issues-swtor-bans-for-loot-exploit just read the comments, a few explain what they did. KrazyKaiju #3 Posted January 4, 2012 Bioware may be in the right, but banning paying customers over something like this is a good way to destroy the value of your product. And how inept are the developers if they have to resort to bans over something that a decent team could resolve in 24 hours with a hot patch? I've come to expect this sort of thing from Bethesda, but I thought better of Bioware.
HatefulGravey #4 Posted January 4, 2012 In things like this I just ask if it provides an advantage that is unfair. If it does a ban might just be in order. I don't like long term bans for these things as that is just bad business. However, a week or so just to make you think twice next time isn't a bad thing and in the end that person can still be happy with the company instead of pissed forever over something silly. People take advantage of glitches in COD all the time, they fix the problem so it can't happen anymore and move on. That is all that need be done a lot of times. It just isn't that big of a deal. PsychoKittyNet #5 Posted January 4, 2012 Bioware did release a statement on it, the only people who were outright banned were gold sellers. A few others were suspended for exploits but not outright banned. However, as I have recently learned many MMO players are a whiny bunch, many players just wanted something to scream foul about. Hatta #6 Posted January 4, 2012 Glitches are part of the game. Don't punish players for playing the game as you published it.
madmax2069 #7 Posted January 4, 2012 (edited) Glitches are part of the game. Don't punish players for playing the game as you published it. Glitches/bugs are to be reported and not taken advantage of to make the game better for everyone. There will always be people looking for bugs and glitches just to find a way take advantage of it to get a unfair advantage over others (its called a exploit), These people ruin the game for everyone, It is not fun at all to play with these type of people. you reap what you sew when taking advantage of a glitch/bug. These people knew what they are doing which is why they continued to do it. Reporting bugs and glitches in a game is a moral obligation, you take advantage of the said issue then it shows people that you have no morals about yourself. SlowCoder #8 Posted January 8, 2012 What pisses me off is when people call themselves "elite" because they know every glitch in a game. I think the more apt term is "chump" and "cheater". In the end, it's up to the room host to kick or allow cheaters to play. If I'm host, I'll immediately ban you. If you don't want to play with cheaters in a room, go find another room. OR learn the glitches, follow them through the glitches and take them down. Back when I played Rainbow Six (the first one), I made it my job to squat in the common spots and take out the cheaters. After a few minutes they'd either stop cheating, or leave the room. Usually they'd leave the room. LOL
+HammR25 #9 Posted January 8, 2012 It's not "bad business" to ban a few people who are making a game less fun for thousands of other players and messing with the economy of the game. Those people know what they're doing.
SlowCoder #10 Posted January 9, 2012 It's not "bad business" to ban a few people who are making a game less fun for thousands of other players and messing with the economy of the game. Those people know what they're doing. I forgot to mention in my previous post... I think it would be good business to temp ban cheaters 1 time for a week. Then if they continue, perm ban. Bit the companies should, in the meantime, should work to fix the cheats. This puts it on the shoulders of both the cheaters, and the company to create a good solid system and community. I will also go to say that some exploits can be cool, and not to the detriment of a game. In Burnout Paradise, you can use exploits to put your cars on the top of tall buildings, etc. And it really doesn't hurt anyone else that you're doing it. That reminds me of what people did in PGR4 in tag (bulldog i think what it was called). they would use a bug in the game to glitch their cars up on a building to keep from being tagged. this same glitch if done wrong would lock up everybody's system that was playing in that lobby.
