0078265317 #1 Posted January 4, 2012 I was attempting to fix my stock controller. I forget how it goes back together. The pot wires. the 2 black, 1 brown, and 1 red. Which order do they go in.
Charlie_ #2 Posted January 4, 2012 Don't know If it is clear enough, but check out here and I'm sure you can get it back together. http://chazbeenhad.tripod.com/5200joy/
0078265317 #3 Posted January 4, 2012 I see red on the top. But it is hard too see if it is left or right and then the small black. And bottom is it black left and brown right leaving the right most thing empty. Or left empty and then blacn and then brown.
+Cafeman #4 Posted January 4, 2012 I have a related question to append to 0078's thread ... I recently took my controller apart to clean the contacts. After a few tries I got it all back together again and everything works well - except the PAUSE button. I took it apart again and pressed the PAUSE contact with a metal screw driver and it simply doesn't register any more. Reset and start and everything else work fine. What did I do and can I fix it? Any ideas?

Any ideas? It sounds like you may have broken a trace on the flex circuit... something that's all too easy to do. (It's super important to remove the top bezel before disassembling the controller to avoid bending those Start/Pause/Reset circuits.) If cleaning the contacts on the flex circuit and/or replacing the carbon dot with either a glued aluminum foil dot or the Best gold dots doesn't work, you almost certainly have a broken flex circuit, which is really difficult to fix. You'll probably need to buy a new one at that point unless you can manage to solder over the broken trace in a way that won't rebreak (very difficult.) I've got a number of 5200 controllers that need new flex circuits for this reason... haven't got around to buying them yet. +Cafeman #6 Posted January 4, 2012 I have 2 other controllers, I guess I'll just clean those and center/adjust their sticks, and use them. Thanks for the reply. I probably bent the flex circuit the wrong way when I tried to pry off the plastic casing itself (not the bezel over the pause / start buttons, but the top of the 5200 controller itself which is held by 2 push-pin things). And bottom is it black left and brown right leaving the right most thing empty. Or left empty and then blacn and then brown. Well the bottom one has the left empty and black on the center prong. That would leave brown on the right.
0078265317 #8 Posted January 5, 2012 I finally took apart my good controller and put it back together. @cafeman -- Try rubbing the pause button with a eraser. If the eraser gets dirty then the contact probably needed cleaning. It worked and I now have 1 good controller. The buttons are way more responsive than before. Anyhow couldn't find the answer so I took apart the working one. (was scared at first) but put it back together and now it works fine. Anyhow both are revision 9. Might have bent the flex a little cleaning with the pencil eraser. But it still works all pause start and reset. Anyhow the bottom is black center and right is brown. And the top is right black and left pink. The right slot is empty. Anhow have 2 sets of pots and neither work. The buttons work if I tap with screw driver. But the posts don't go left and right. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. Now they don't move at all. Wierd. Maybe I'll just ebay the broken the controller for 5 bucks or something. Ir has a revision 9 clear light sky blue flex.
