NE146 #26 Posted January 13, 2012 For me.. probably spending $60 on Power Moves for the snes in the midst of Street Fighter fever. Also maybe Swordquest Fireworld (what the heck was going on in that game?). I felt a little let down buying Double Dragon for the SMS.. looking for the dual player but finding the game didn't really play too well. I payed $50 for snes Super Tennis too but I wasn't exactly dissapointed by that as the game is fun. I did eventually feel I overpayed though. I can't remember on the 2600 but I think I bought a turkey or 2. Defender was a bit of a disappointment. Really? Was this was when it was first released? Just asking out of curiousity really.. the game was well recieved when it was new. But it fell out of favor as the years went on.
so_tough! #27 Posted January 13, 2012 Hard to pick one, but Vigilante for the Pc Engine sucks. I have some rubbish basketball game for the Pc Engine aswell. Edit- Oh crap, I actually forgot, Cybermorph for the Jag with that green witch. I actually bought this, for very cheap, but still I bought it. Bad game. Cybermorph was great!! What other game let you be taunted by a green witch? Mine has to be Raiden for the Jag. Its a good game, but the seller screwed with it. A Jag Game in a Genesis Cart?? Who does that? You need help darling. A Jag game in a Genesis cart, what the f***, I still don't see how it can even work. Explain that to me, cause I'm real stoopid. I'll take a pic good idea louisiana lola! +thegoldenband #33 Posted January 13, 2012 Your avatars are confusing me!! Back on topic: I haven't bought very many games at retail, so I don't have a big range of options to choose from. But, uh...let's just say that I basically agree with the Video Game Critic on this one. Very disappointing. BTW, I actually like Bugs, and I really enjoyed Drakkhen, though I can understand why someone wouldn't. Great music in that game. I also just bought Super Hydlide -- on purpose and everything! -- and am looking forward to trying it out, since I kind of liked the original. Star Strike, OTOH, is terrible. Might be my least favorite Intellivision game; there's practically no joy in the gameplay at all.
Inky #34 Posted January 13, 2012 Easy.. Athena on the NES. God lord that game is a mess.

Austin #36 Posted January 13, 2012 I can't put my finger on a single one right now. It would probably be some kind of CD-i title. Maybe a handful or terrible 3DO or Jaguar games. A terrible Saturn effort or two. Maybe E.T. on the 2600. OK, OK, that last one was just a joke.
DemonoidTentacle #37 Posted January 13, 2012 Far from being the worst game I've ever played, but Mighty Max for the SNES is the worst game I ever bought. I usually have a pretty good nose for picking the good from the bad, but I don't know what I saw in this game. I think it's just because the show kicked ass. A_Locomotive #38 Posted January 13, 2012 Advent Rising for th Xbox is definitely one of the worst I've ever bought, bought it on launch before its buggy nature was known. Took a VERY long time to beat it, not because it was hard but because the number of game breaking glitches I encountered were staggering.
crade #39 Posted January 13, 2012 I think mine is xmen for nes... Terrible game.. Bad graphics, bad gameplay, no story, no purpose but to wander aimlessly, the characters were indistingashable from each other, the levels were boring and all felt the same, the enemies were just tossed at you randomly... Just terrible.

Just terrible. Ouch, I rented that once. The game stuck you with a CPU-controlled partner who was so stupid, they'd repeatedly get stuck walking into walls or corners. Only way I could complete a stage was to pick Nightcrawler for the AI buddy, since he could teleport when he got stuck.

Right, I forgot about that, they force you to waste a character on the CPU who always got them killed right away, not allowing you to use that character anymore. +thegoldenband #42 Posted January 13, 2012 Yeah, X-Men is pretty rough, though IIRC, StanJr was able to get really good at it and came to like it. He might be able to muster up a compelling defense. I seem to recall that he said the non-projectile characters were more useful than they appeared. BITD I got very close to beating the game -- I think I made the final boss (after discovering the code), but never did quite finish it off. Having to play with the computer character was a real drag, though.
Spoon #43 Posted January 13, 2012 and I really enjoyed Drakkhen, though I can understand why someone wouldn't. I didn't care for it when I first played it, but then I reached a point where I had beaten every RPG I owned and was jonsing for a new challenge. Once I sat down and focused on it, I ended up really enjoying it. Was looking forward to the sequel, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. I think mine is xmen for nes Ha ha ha! A friend of mine got this for Christmas one year. We played this for about twenty minutes, turned it off, and never spoke of it again. Such an amazingly awful game in every aspect known to man, and even some aspects yet to be discovered.
+Cafeman #44 Posted January 13, 2012 Biggest ripoff for me was A8 Gorf. I bought it for my new 1200XL. It didn't work. (Atari had changed the operating system). The electronics store (Gary's in Johnstown PA if you ever went there) told me to sand down the cart case so it would 'fit' better. I did .. never worked and the store of course wouldn't take it back. I honestly can't think of a really terrible guy I bought and actually played. I usually know something about the game & won't buy crappy ones. Okay, maybe "Tomb Raider Chronicles" in which I discovered the series' faults hadn't been fixed and it smacked of 'been there, done that' all over again. AlvinKarpis #48 Posted January 13, 2012 I got Ghostbusters on the NES for X-mas (I had already had the NES for a year so I was used to the original great games like SMB, Donkey Kong and DK Jr., Ballon Fight, Castlevania, Metroid) I had never played the 2600 version so I had no clue what I was getting into I pictured a game as a cross between like what Contra would be (when it was released and I got it after GBs) and what Castlevania was I pictured running around as Ray or Peter or Egon blasting 1000s of ghosts and facing a huge Stay Puft boss at the end of the game I vividly remember putting the game in and almost going into shock after playing it for 10 mins and still being on the stupid map/building screen Horrible memories of my favorite movie being ruined by Activision
+save2600 #49 Posted January 13, 2012 These are games I paid full retail for back in the day and after ripping open the packaging and popping it in, quickly wondered WTF? 2600: Bugs, Star Fox, Earthworld and Fireworld, Atari Video Cube, Double Dunk. TG-16 - Silent Debuggers (and this game was expensive! pretty sure it was $70 at E.B.) SNES - Stunt Race FX Jaguar - Checkered Flag and Highlander PSX - Resident Evil N64: Castlevania Dreamcast - Shenmue XBox - Star Wars: KotOR (sorry, guess by this time, I learned that I hate these types of games... wandering around aimlessly in obnoxiously large mission based environments, going nowhere fast - all in the name of "realism")
Chuck D. Head #50 Posted January 13, 2012 (edited) 2600: Bugs, Star Fox, I forgot about Bugs. Horrible game, but I have heard people say they enjoyed it. I bought it within a few weeks of Firefly and Sorceror. When I bought them, I would have bought Star Fox for the trifecta of Mythicon crappiness, but I didn't have another $5; thank god. Right around that same time, I got Tax Avoiders for the same $5, even though it sounded bad, I enjoyed it and got some play out of it. Edited January 13, 2012 by Chuck D.
