+boxpressed #1 Posted January 13, 2012 (edited) How did 2011 treat your collections? By "favorite" I mean those additions that bring the most satisfaction or joy to you as a collector and/or gamer. My three: 1. Vectrex. I never had or even played one of these as a kid, but no other console I own inspires the same sense of wonder as the Vectrex whenever I fire it up. It is the only platform for which I am trying to collect everything. 2. Vectrex 3D Imager. Lucked into buying one of these for very little. Look, Ma -- two colors on the Vectrex! 3. Astrocade. I should say the first working Astrocade. After three others with "issues," the fourth time was the charm. Another console I didn't have or ever played as a kid. Like the Vectrex, it doesn't even need to be turned on to look cool. What are your three? Edited January 13, 2012 by boxpressed
Rex Dart #2 Posted January 13, 2012 (edited) 1) Everdrive MD 2) 3DO (FZ10) 3) A bunch of s-video and a/v jacks that I installed on several of my old systems, after being impressed with those being available on the back of the 3DO. +thegoldenband #3 Posted January 13, 2012 Fun question. I'd have to say: 1) Vector Pilot for the Vectrex. Absolutely glorious. 2) 3D glasses for the Sega Master System. These work about 10 times better than I expected. 3) My Game Boy Advance SP, so I can actually see the games I'm playing for a change! It makes me want to play my (fairly modest) GB/GBC/GBA collection a lot more.

A_Locomotive #15 Posted January 14, 2012 (edited) 1) PC Engine Duo-R w/ region mod and original box. Long time want of mine but never thought I'd own a Duo since it never occured to me to get a Japanese one, I always looked at US Duo's with their crazy prices and let my wallet make the decision not to buy one. haha So when I found out that a Duo-R was a viable option since they have no region lock on CD games I started looking into them and found the site of a guy who sells them as well as offers modding services. So I decided to finally go for it, after like a month or 2 of back and forth emails with him I settled on what I wanted (Boxed Duo-R w/ matching controller and region mod) and what games I wanted. Since I was buying a ton he hooked me up with a ton of reasonably priced games and even a free Ten No Koe bank card. I couldn't be happier with the console, its an absolute blast to to play and looks freaking boss sitting on my shelf when I'm not using it. 2) Atari Jaguar. This was my first Atari console not counting my Lynx II. Was always curious about the console but seeing as the only ones I ever saw for sale where either beat to hell and filthy or outrageously expensive, I never looked seriously into getting one. But once I got my Lynx my interest in them and Atari in general came back and when I found and joined this forum and once I discovered I could buy a NOS one for a reasonable price from a reputable source I went for it. Yeah the console nor its games are perfect or close to it but it is what it is and its pretty damn cool. 3) SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color. Technically I got this in 2012 but seeing as it was first offered to me in trade during the final days of 2011 I consider it a 2011 addition. I remember when these where still in stores always thought they were cool but never spent my allowance on one as I knew even then it didn't have a chance in the long run and I didn't want to get stuck with something I couldn't get games for. I even talked my little brother out of buying one I was so confident it would fail. Sadly I was right and it vanished, even then I still kind of wanted one. So ever since then I'd periodically look into one and then forget about it when I invariably couldn't find one for a reasonable price, in acceptable condition or I was broke. lol So when atari2600land offered me his I bit. It cost me Astal for my Saturn and Doom for my Jag but it was worth it. I was shocked at how playable King of Fighters and Samuari Showdown where on it. I'd always heard it was insanely perfect for fighters but never really believed it could be that much better then fighters on any other handheld, man was I wrong. lol I'm over all very impressed with the NGPC it far exceeded my expectations. If I could have a 4th pick my PSP would get it. Edited January 14, 2012 by A_Locomotive
Austin #16 Posted January 14, 2012 1. Kyocera Pro-1000S CD-i player/karaoke machine -- This was an eBay find that I must have saw before anyone else. I did some quick research and could barely find any information on it. That alone was indication that it was not common, so I made the impulse decision and snapped it up (it was a BIN listing). After talking with the CD-i community about it, it turns out they have only seen one other pop up in the past, solidifying that this thing is a collectible piece. I won't get a ton of use out of it (it does not have a DVC cart in it), but I am really glad I found it and have it--it's probably the rarest thing I have in my collection now! 2. Samsung N501 NUON player -- This was a find in the wild. They don't pop up all that often, and it's the better NUON model to have, with its homebrew capabilities. I'm glad I found it, and I'm glad I didn't have to pay $80+ for it online. 3. 200+ NES games -- I decided to go for a mostly-complete (sans Stadium Events) NES collection and made out with over 200 games in 2011. Torr #18 Posted January 14, 2012 (edited) In no particular order... 3-D Glasses for the SMS : As someone esle said, worked way better than I expected, I May have had to wait 20 years for 'em, but it was worth the wait. Resident Evil 2 for Dreamcast : Played the hell out of this on Gamecube, to the point where I could beat it easily without saving once. When I heard the Dreamcast had a 'Nightmare' difficulty mode I had to get it. Still haven't beaten it on Nightmare difficulty... Rumble Roses for PS2 : If you took the hottest chicks from this game, teamed them up with the hottest chicks from DOA, you'd have a game that you'd swear was published by Hustler Magazine. Not the greatest game mind you, but a fun wrestling game that I'm glad I've added to my collection Edited January 14, 2012 by Torr

RASK1904 #23 Posted January 14, 2012 Me being a Nes guy (save it) and going for the complete set, I'd have to say it would be the Little Samson I got for 20$. The Rescue Rangers 2 I got for 20$ and the Dragon Warrior 4 I got for.... 35$ish. That completes the Dragon Warriors. One of my favorites. And a killer deal on the Little Samson. I also had the manuals for LS and RR2 but sold/trade them. I'm at 621/677 Lisecnds Nes carts and 45/91 unlisecnds making 666/768 diferent carts. Figure the last 56 will take like 2 years. brojamfootball #24 Posted January 14, 2012 1. Vectrex. Waited almost 30 years to own one of these--love it! I splurged and bought the sd card programmable cart first thing. Then I splurged again and bought a homebrew light pen here on Atariage. This console gets played regularly. Color me jealous of the Vector Pilot owners... 2. Tomy American Pinball toy pinball machine I already had the simpler, but also cool Atomic Pinball, but the American Pinball is just fantastic! When I have company this thing is frequently a favorite, with multiple bonus hole/skill shots and some nice sound effects. I consider it the finest "toy" pinball machine ever made. I owned a Zizzle Marvel Heroes machine and while it was more of a "real" pin, it had some glaring errors that kind of hurt it. Anyway... 3. Coleco Tabletop Mini Arcades I'm gonna sort of lump a few together here. A couple of years ago, I bought a broken tabletop Galaxian from a guy on ben heck's site fer cheep. I cleaned the battery contacts and it fired right up--no battery cover though, and even with cardboard/tape/popsicle sticks etc these heavy batteries are hard to keep in their place. Both joysticks were broken off, but the pieces were there. I took a couple of small bolt spacers and fashioned new sticks. Fun game! In 2011, I scored a REALLY busted up tabletop Ms Pacman, which worked but was missing the entire top half/"hood" of the machine--came with battery cover. I swapped out the joysticks from the Galaxian, stole Ms Pacman's battery cover and voila! The Galaxian looks MUCH better and the batteries don't shake loose all the time! The Ms Pacman is fun really to play even though it's beat to hell, I ought to add. And it's so beat up that having cardboard and tape on the batteries is no big deal. Okay, final last part here: This past year I also purchased a somewhat decently clean tabletop Donkey Kong off craigslist, missing a couple stickers and no battery cover. Somewhere here on Atariage, a member mentioned that he fashioned an AC adaptor for his tabletop DK, and I ended up sending him a few bucks for his battery cover. I still have to make a couple of replacement stickers, but my DK is working well. The difficulty on this game is pretty intense. Whoops, one more part: Just a few weeks ago I picked up a really clean tabletop Pacman fer cheep from craigslist. Sadly, it has no battery cover. As has been said many times, the annoying sound on this game could kick 7800 Donkey Kong's butt--and there is no volume control. The Coleco tabletop arcades are so pricey anymore that I just can't ebay them. I wish I had bought some four or five years ago before their value rose. Here's hoping I find a semi-broken Zaxxon in 2012!
