ahector #1 Posted January 15, 2003 what kind of power adapter does the NES take? What do I ask for if I go to an electronics store? Is it the same kind of power adaprter that, say, a discman takes? cheers.
burke_01 #2 Posted January 15, 2003 I think it's just a plain ol' 9 volt adapter. I'm currently using an adapter from one of my guitar pedals and it seems to work just fine.
somePUNK #3 Posted January 15, 2003 yep nine volt just like the sms
BIG EARL #4 Posted January 15, 2003 If you go to a place like Radio Shack, just tell them what you want the power supply for and they will most likely show you the correct one. Just take these numbers with you: Output 9v 1.3A I would suggest you check out your local thrift stores such as Goodwill, Salvation Army, Savers/Value Village first, they may have some original NES power Supplies laying around for a Fraction of the cost. If you check the thrift stores, look for a plug that says "Nintendo AC Adapter Model No. NES-002" Hope this info helps
King Atari #5 Posted January 15, 2003 My Radio Shack has (or had, not sure now) replacement adaptors that actually listed the system they were for. It set me back $20, but I have a brand new NES adaptor should my current one go bad.
davidbrit2 #6 Posted January 15, 2003 The weird thing about the NES is that it needs AC, not DC. If you use DC, you'll get a horrible audio buzz, and certain games won't work. It took me the longest time to figure out why I was having those problems.
Krytol #7 Posted January 17, 2003 I'm always having to track down power supplies for consoles I find at thrifts. It's quite an ordeal. Does anyone know of a site that lists all the specs for various systems? I'd be willing to host one.

Hydian #9 Posted February 7, 2003 Try Funcoland/Gamestop/Babbages. They carry loose power supplies for the systems they carry.
