VicViper #1 Posted January 16, 2012 Can anybody say what the heck those labeled carts are in this auction? are they protos, or some kind of bootlegs? http://www.shopgoodwill.com/viewItem.asp?ItemID=9217913
atari2atari #2 Posted January 16, 2012 Can anybody say what the heck those labeled carts are in this auction? are they protos, or some kind of bootlegs? http://www.shopgoodw...?ItemID=9217913 I saw that one, too, and was briefly puzzled - - maybe they just ripped the labels off? The ends are strange, though, all blunt and square . . . Maybe someone here will win, and we will find out . . . . . . or we'll see it listed on eBay for $1,200 as "rArE OMG! Worked last when I put it in the attic!" -a2a
Grig #3 Posted January 16, 2012 Can't tell - could they possibly be lab carts?
VicViper #4 Posted January 16, 2012 I'm glad to see a few people as confused as me. I figured protos, loaners, or perhaps some kind of "back up" carts?
atari2atari #5 Posted January 17, 2012 Well, after trolling about a bit and staring at the low-rez grainy pictures . . . I still don't know! Review copies, or perhaps a strange, little known "copy-cart" product? Some of the carts appear to have text like "<name> / <name>" - - two titles, separated by a slash? A primitive multi-cart?!? Tempted to bid, but I am hoping someone here will instead, and satiate my curiosity! -a2a

Grig #7 Posted January 17, 2012 If it doesn't get too crazy I may bid. Maybe I can pull of a Jedi mind trick at the end or a "What in the world is that?!" - but shopgoodwill gets crazy on prices and they are crazy on their shipping prices/methods (like ONLY using UPS to ship something under 1 lb). I know it's supposed to be 'charity' or a good donation, but I have had many conversations with Goodwill execs/employees in the past over pricing issues (like using some random dude on ebay as a price guide) and they have all basically told me 'tough sh&t'. I don't buy much on goodwill.com or in the stores much anymore.

thevnaguy #9 Posted January 17, 2012 They do have the same pin count as the Atari Computer carts
Tempest #10 Posted January 17, 2012 Those look like some sort of homemade copies. Maybe a copy cart like people have been saying. They're not prototypes, at least not as far as I can tell.
Atari8bitCarts #11 Posted January 17, 2012 If someone finds out what those were, please post the information. I tried to bid but their website is so difficult it still has not sent me the confirmation email to set my account up. Whomever owned that set wasn't a common user, those housings and boards look way different. Not your typical Atari gamer. Thanx.
+boxpressed #12 Posted January 17, 2012 Closed at $39.59. I was runner-up here with my lowball bid. I had to go to the store a half hour before close and thought that bidding would go much higher. I hope the winner is on AA and can report back.
