Chad #1 Posted January 15, 2003 I've been looking at the ARCADE hacks labels, thinking these would make cool posters. Has AA ever thought about blowing those up and selling poster of the them? I would definately buy'em. Although, maybe it would be too expensive?? Just a thought....
Psquare #2 Posted January 16, 2003 I'd be up for a few posters. Enduro and River Raid come to mind. I printed em out but a professional one would look nicer. Adventure.. etc, a whole slew of games come to mind
minorleagueguy #3 Posted January 16, 2003 This is a good idea, any follow up?
Jobf #4 Posted January 16, 2003 Yeah this is a good idea. I'd be up for some poster action.
joeybastard #5 Posted January 16, 2003 If they are Illustrator files it should be easy as pie.
foxglove9 #6 Posted January 16, 2003 Yeah posters would be great. Though if it was done in photoshop the resolution would have to be rather huge for it to print with any type of clarity. What i've been doing for the past 4 years is scanning cart labels and manuals, doing a little customizing, and making custom tshirts. Just as fun. King Atari #7 Posted January 16, 2003 Posters would definitely be cool.
joeybastard #8 Posted January 16, 2003 Well that's why I mention Illustrator in my last post. If they are vector based Illustrator .AI (or.EPS) files they will resize and print perfectly clear. If they are rasterized Photoshop files they probably won't print clearly if enlarged to poster size..
Flojomojo #9 Posted March 11, 2003 I found this thread when I went on a little search -- "I wonder if anyone has blown up the Atari box art and put it on posters?" The earlier, brightly colored boxes (Defender, Pac-Man, Missile Command, Asteroids, Dodge'Em, Adventure, Star Raiders) in particular would make for stunning wall art. I'd buy at least one if someone were to reproduce these writ large.
Xot #10 Posted March 11, 2003 You'd be surprised. A standard 300 dpi, 100% of original size label blows up quite nicely to 18"x24" or so. Those of you attending Philly will see what I mean. While I could, theoretically, do this, I don't have the means to produce what would surely be the demand. I ran a couple big prints off at work, but at considerable cost. I couldn't do it 'on demand.' But, I can say with certainty that it can be done.
Deleto #11 Posted March 11, 2003 You should all know that making artwork that has enough resolution to be blown up to poster size takes quite a lot of work and patience, even when you do an 8x11 and have that blown up (which won't look to good when done at most copyshops). Making it in Illustrator or anything else vectorbased would be great, but it's a pain in the ass if not impossible to alter images based on scans or photographs or whatever that's pixelbased. So you could easily do artwork like the old AcTiVision boxes in Illustrator but not any of the airbrush art stuff. Now I know someone who has a stack of original 10x7 cm slides from the Atari graphics dept. with photos from the original artwork... Those would make perfect posters and have enough resolution to do billboard sized stuff. Although it's only the original artwork, not the graphics around it that make it a label or box.. if he can still find them.. Oh, he lives in NY and has ATARI as a vanity plate.. CPUWIZ #12 Posted March 11, 2003 I could print on 11 x 17 photographic paper, my photo printer goes up to 13 x 19 but I don't have paper that big.
Robert M #13 Posted March 12, 2003 I just received a demo disk that contains a utility from Corel I think that is supposed to change raster images into vector images. It might be a good solution. Although I believe the price tag on the actual software is several hundred dollars. [edit] Here it is: Corel® DESIGNER® 10 Available Now! Its part of the new Corel Designer 10 Suite. Xot #14 Posted March 12, 2003 Don't take this personally, but as a graphics professional, let me tell you that Corel products SUCK ASS. Now, I, too, was taught about effect resolution and all that crap. Despite all that, for the most part, you can take a decent, small image, and blow it up with minimal loss of quality, provided: a) Your output device has a good RIP, and b) You're viewing it from an acceptable distance. I used to work on digital graphics for billboards and I know whereof I speak. The issue here really is the output. If anyone knows where you can get full color, large format, poster-quality output CHEAP, by all means LMK.
dwh #15 Posted March 12, 2003 I had the Pheonix poster, but it was in the box that I threw out years ago.If posters were offered in AA store(even if it were for the new homebrews due to copyright crap),I know I'd buy 'em.
