Slor #1 Posted January 22, 2012 FYI to everyone here who joins us in IRC (or who has always wanted to) - we are no longer using newnet.net as our main contact point. This is due to a number of stability and other issues over a number of months, and it seems like a good time to move. We've listened to folks' suggestions and are now on freenode in channel ##atari. Yes, 2 hashes for the channel name, per freenode's guidelines. So, you have at least a couple ways to get there, and I bet Sloopy will follow up with more: Connect your favorite IRC client to chat.freenode.net and join channel ##atari. Telnet to irc.atarichat.net, port 800. This is the same as before, and it will now put you in the freenode channel. Hope to see all you regs and some new folks there soon! Any questions, feel free to send me a PM. thanks James
sloopy #2 Posted January 22, 2012 freenode is a predefined server in xchat standard config, so just have to connect to freenode and then /join ##Atari... sloopy.
Slor #3 Posted January 22, 2012 Yeah, same with many IRC clients. In MIRC, for example, it's as easy as selecting from the menu as well or simply typing "/server freenode" in your first window to connect (and of course add ##Atari to your auto-join list ). Thanks sloop.
Moya Jackie #4 Posted January 22, 2012 Awesome, thanks for bringing the channel to my attention, I already hang out on Freenode so I'll drop by and see if I can fit in.

Fox-1 / mnx #12 Posted February 18, 2012 Can this IRC also be reached through telnet? I like to get there with ICE-T on my Atari 8bit. I never saw the telnet gateway posted in public before (which doesn't mean it never was) but I PM-ed you the url.

Slor #16 Posted February 29, 2012 (edited) So, for telnet, you have two options now: #1: telnet://irc.atarichat.net:800 This one is for anyone running a VT100-capable terminal (Ice-T falls into that category). #2: telnet://irc.atarichat.net:400 This is a simple, ascii-only interface to the same channel, for use with a wider array of terminals. Still being tested, so let me know if you see any issues. Or the web interface is can be gotten to at http://urql.com/[email protected]. And, of course, the main IRC is irc://chat.freenode.net. +Mr Robot #18 Posted January 2, 2020 Necro'ing this thread to mention that I've created a discord server for Atari 8-Bit chat here https://discord.gg/uEzw3FW It might be a bit more familiar to the younger crowd, to the oldies it will feel like a pretty irc.
