Atari++ Emulator Version 1.14 Released

http://www.math.tu-berlin.de/~thor/atari++Version 1.14 of the Atari++ Emulator has been released. The Atari++ Emulator is a Unix-based Atari 8-bit emulator, and can be compiled on a variety of systems (Linux, Solaris, Irix). New features in the 1.14 release include:

 

[*]Extended emulation of various cartridge types (SDX,XEGS)

[*]Emulation of the 5200 BountyBob cartridge.

[*]Improved sound quality for Oss and ALSA.

[*]Highly improved sound emulation for SDL

Checking out comp.sys.atari.8bit, it seems some people have taken up the challenge of porting it over to work on Windows. This is great news, as Atari++ is the only 8-bit/5200 emulator at the moment that deals with changing colours and doing stuff mid-scanline properly. Things like Master of the Lamps will work properly now. :D

Excellent news, I wasn't aware of this effort! I hope they are successful! :)

One thing to be aware of though. If you read the atari800 users mailing list, you'll find out that the atari++ author has violated the atari800 license. He has used portions of the atari800 code and design (I know he said he has wrote the emulator from scratch....some areas yes, but not completly true...atari800 authors have verified this).

 

However, he has not released the new emulator under the GPL, but has created his own license which says you can't modify the source without his permission.

 

According to his license, we can't use his code without his permission. Yet, he felt free to use the code contributed by other authors, without following the rules of the Atari800 license.
