Animan
For me, it's Anime and video game soundtracks, Eurobeat, Devo, Weird Al, and some random rock albums. Do any of you listen to music while programming, and what songs do you listen to?
+Random Terrain
If using a BASIC style language counts as programming, I listen to nothing. I can't have any distractions.
rockfistus
I listen to a lot of 90's and 80's crap. Soundgarden, Garbage, Porno for Pyros, The Doves, Oasis, Veruca Salt..etc
Emehr
I don't program as much as I used to but when I did my music rotation consisted of Devo, James Brown, Smashing Pumpkins, Porno For Pyros, Rage Against the Machine, Pink Floyd, and a few others I can't remember. Mr SQL
I listen to SID's; I have several favourite lists comprised of the ones that get just the right alpha waves going I like Galager, Hubbard, Jeron Tel and many of the other gread composers. Draxish... fantastic, who wrote that? I'd really like to pick up a SID player with a real 6581 if anyone knows of one; the chip has analouge filters that can't be emulated.

Thomas Jentzsch
I am listening to my personal Pandora channel of non-distracting music. Usually some toned down music there (Tracy Chapman, Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler, Aimee Mann...).

rasch_C
I get in the zone with a techno soundtrack - Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Praga Kahn, Prodigy, Orbital, Aphex Twin, etc. And then switch it up sometimes to some Celtic, or whatever else I stumble upon the internet while testing code at 3am - think The Brodingnagian Bards lol
Rex Dart
Has to be something that doesn't demand attention. Repetive techno/trance/chillout, Tangerine Dream, etc. Lyrics are a no-go for sure.
+nanochess
Enya, some instrumentals mostly, sometimes Muse and/or the Cranberries.
ZippyRedPlumber
Let's get the controversial statement out of the way; I don't know how to use any basic... But while making mockups for homebrew ideas, I often listen to bands I like, like Devo, Rush, Styx, Aerosmith, Genesis, etc.
phillip_roberts
It depends on the mood I am in & where I am at in production.
roland p
new favorite of mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLcNhnPF1hc (youtube compression destroys the soundtrack though...) This really extracts code from my brain Edited June 7, 2015 by roland p
Zarek
Changes all the time for myself, but at the moment I'm listening to hip-hop of all things I guess usually I switch between Nirvana and Beach House.
kaufenpreis
This depends on a task I need to perform as well as from my working environment. If you work in the office with more than 2 people I recommend that you to get some good headphones to minimize to block out background noise from your colleagues. AtariTexas
From Slayer and System to a Down all the way down to some leisurely Chicago and other 70's bands..................just depends on the mood I'm in
