VicViper #51 Posted July 12, 2012 In a way I'm relieved, seeing as Olean is NOT a short ride from Rochester.
ghsqb #52 Posted July 12, 2012 I'm not from upstate NY, in fact in from Ottawa, Canada, but I'm in upstate NY all the time since I have seasons tickets to the Bills. I've done some stops in Rochester, hit up the flea market near the Buffalo airport, but my favorite place to stop in that area is Oogie Games. They don't have a ton of older stuff, but there is always some stuff at the different locations.

Some of their stuff is pretty grossly overpriced, but every once in a while you'll find something decent; I managed to find Star Wars Arcade for 2600 for $5. Not bad. And GO BILLS! atariauctions #54 Posted July 13, 2012 I got a silver labeled Gravitar there for $2.99 and the Atari Action Pak boxed for $4.99 at Oogie Games. Sometimes they do not know the labels to well for prices

fdurso224 #57 Posted July 14, 2012 Hi guys, Well I'm in The Bronx, NY so I may be a born & raised New Yorker, but unfortunately nowhere close to where you are! I was up there many years ago. It was okay I guess. Anthony....
plyboult #58 Posted November 16, 2012 Don't mean to bump a super old thread... but, though I am not a "collector" I do play games & have gotten back into some Atari lately. I am located in Syracuse. MicroGame is a nice store, GameCraze is cool too but seems like they have the same stuff all the time. I haven't been to the Farmer's Market in awhile since I work Sunday Mornings, but they usually have some older classic stuff down there.
Metal Ghost #59 Posted November 16, 2012 I've been meaning to get down to the Famer's Market on 'Flea Market Sunday' for forever! But that never quite seems to work out. I'm going to try and make a concerted effort to though before the snow starts to fly.
marillion #60 Posted November 17, 2012 I'm originally from Rome, NY but moved to Myrtle Beach, SC about 6 years ago. Wish there was more retro gaming down here. Peace, Chip
plyboult #61 Posted November 17, 2012 Last year there was a Jr for sale there on the cheap & I didn't pick it up when I should have. Also there's an elderly lady there who always sells older games & stuff.
Metal Ghost #62 Posted October 13, 2013 Bump: Quite a bit of Retrogaming-goodness happening in the Syracuse area this fall! Next week (Saturday, October 19th) 'Retrogamecon' is happening at the Drivers Village Convention Center up in Cicero. From today's paper: "Retro video game convetion featuring games, vendors, tournaments, tabletop gaming, lectures/panels, and more". I'm not affilliated with it in any way, but if you're in the area and are able to, stop by and show your support! I have a feeling that as a new -con it's going to be pretty small, but that's how these things start! Then starting on October 26th "The Art of Video Games" is opening up at the Everson. It is the exhibit organized by the Smithsonian American Art Museum. I saw it on opening day in Washington, D.C. and it's a great art exhibit. As more 'hard core' gamers, it probably won't illuminate you on anything in particular, but fun nonetheless. The exhibit runs through January 19th. Finally, on Saturday, November 9th, Video Games Live is playing at the Landmark Theatre at 8PM. Video gaming goodness finally makes it's way to Syracuse.....I'm loving this!! Metal Ghost #63 Posted October 20, 2013 Had an absolutely great time at the Retrogamecon yesterday in Syracuse. It was a modest affair. However, for a first outing, it was definitely solid. There were a decent number of vendors, and I got there fairly early so while I didn't get to see it there was a pretty good size gaming area that was getting set-up and some panels later in the day. I can't wait to see how it can grow next year! Had my first 'me' day in a while too, so after the -con my buddy and I hit some of the new entertainment spots at Destiny USA (shopping, food and entertainment center). Revolutions is a bar, nightclub and rock & bowl place. Lot's of fun....great playing a game of bowling while watching the S.U. game on huge projection TVs over the alley along with wait-service (even if the Football game was a complete waste of time!). Then hit Dave & Busters. All in all, with the new entertainment options in the area, if the Retrogamecon is able to grow over the coming years, there's really a lot of other stuff in the area now to become a good draw for out-of-towners for a weekend. Atariboy #64 Posted October 21, 2013 I'm in the North Country which is the real upstate NY. To the city dwellers and many outsiders, upstate NY seems to start at about Albany leaving 95%+ of the state considered as upstate NY...
The Usotsuki #65 Posted October 21, 2013 I think the line between CNY and the North Country passed through Oswego County.
Atariboy #66 Posted October 21, 2013 Pretty much. I've always thought of it as everything in NYS that's North of Syracuse.
Metal Ghost #67 Posted October 21, 2013 Upstate being north of Syracuse?? That's.....kind of amusing actually.
The Usotsuki #68 Posted October 21, 2013 Well, to me, upstate is any county which is at least partially north of the 90.
Atariboy #69 Posted October 22, 2013 Upstate being north of Syracuse?? That's.....kind of amusing actually. We were talking about the North Country. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Country,_New_York But I don't think it's so far out of the line for Upstate New York as well. Certainly makes more sense than the present usage of it to refer to everything except NYC and Long Island that probably account for about 5% of the state's landmass. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3d/Map_of_New_York_Economic_Regions.svg

I've been to the North Country many, many times. Still pretty amusing. As someone who lived outside Olean for 5 years, I know many people that would laugh at being considered 'Downstaters'. Regardless, I highly recommend folks coming into Syracuse for next years Retrogamecon. I'm hoping to hear about it further in advance myself (I may reach out to try and volunteer), and if I do I'll make a concerted effort to make note of it here on the boards. I can't overstate how excited I am that something like this has finally made its way into 'Upstate NY'
