+wood_jl #26 Posted February 23, 2012 Is there a QUALITY end-all-be-all replacement 72-pin connector? Now you guys (boiling method, etc) have me wishing I didn't fling my old one into the trash. Sounds to me like a be-all end-all solution is to find a Japanese A/V Famicom. I wouldn't mind one of those myself, though right now I have two working front-loaders, so I can't complain. Besides the expense and/or adapter situation, I can't stand the look of the Famicom. I know I'll get flak for that - because everybody's supposed to worship it - but in my humble opinion, that is one butt-ugly console!!! The Super Famicom is pretty cool, but I still like the SNES looks better, if it ain't yellowed. I also don't care for the SNES Mini. I know pretty much the rest of the world will disagree with that, too! I love the original NES. Those retro-duo (or whatever they're up to) seem to work fair enough, but I'd only consider that if the original was too rare (ha!) or something. I've had good luck with my Ebay 72-pin, though. I also can't stand the NES top loader. Besides the fact that there's no composite video and vertical banding noticeably worse than the original NES, I think it's butt-ugly too, with that oversized cartridge sticking in the air. I know the rest of the world disagrees. I sure love the "dogbone" controllers though. I can't stand the el-cheapo/toy-looking way they redesign most consoles. The SNES Mini, Genesis 3, NES top-loader all have this appearance, and it's kind of aggravating to have to hold that lightweight plastic box of air down with one hand to get the cart out without lifting the entire console. Genesis 2 was a pretty good redesign, though.

I've bought them on two seperate occasions and yeah its nice having games work 100 percent of the time but those verticle lines on screen are terrible. Especially one once color backgrounds(which is a majority of NES games). I also agree with you on the Genesis 2. It fits perfectly on top of an original NES too! That's my retro duo!
