Wanted: (2) 1.2 Mb Tested Floppy disks.

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to get this old PC running. It was a compaq portable, it's been rebuilt with IBM parts. I have gotten my hands on some 5inch DOS 5.0 disks. With these, I should be able install DOS to a series of floppy disks, and run the system off the A drive, and programs off the B drive. (Right?) I have three 5-inch disks I 'could' use. It says there is not enough room on one, one is bad, and the last can not be used. There must be a difference in the errors of the bad one, and the unusable one becuase one it rejects right away, the second if grinds on for a few minutes, but I don't know what it is.

I figured I'd check with my friends of Atariage before returning to the ebay battles for such a small need.

Two will be enough, three or four would be preferable so I have some to mess with in the future.

Please test the disks!...at least two. I am confident my drive can read, I don't know if it can write. Please only offer if you are reasonably certain the disk works.

Thanks-Spence

My local shop sales used ones for $1 for 10, but I don't have any PC to check them, only have C= drive and Atari.

Maybe it's your drive?

I'm starting to think it is. I ended up ebaying some disks that came out to a little over a dollar a disk. The system says it's a 1.2mb drive, the disks say they are 1.2mb, but it still says insufficient space. I'm trying to get an older DOS installed to disks, now.

I think I have a new (opened) IBM 1.2MB drive sitting around. Give me a shout if you think you need it.

Hex.

[ Loved the <Clunk> noise the soleniods make on those drives... ]
