Bryan #1 Posted March 7, 2012 Title says it all. I'd like to hook up a modem and I figure the PRC is the way to go.
+Ransom #2 Posted March 7, 2012 Lance over at Atari Sales seems to have the best price on a new one: $49.95 NEW PR CONNECTOR
Bryan #3 Posted March 7, 2012 Every once in a while one goes cheap on ebay, but I might have to bite the bullet if one doesn't turn up.
+Ransom #4 Posted March 8, 2012 I hope you get lucky.
Bryan #5 Posted March 8, 2012 Are we still talking about the PRC?
+Ransom #6 Posted March 9, 2012 Well, it is Friday.
Bryan #7 Posted March 10, 2012 Tried to call Lance all day. No answer.
+Ransom #8 Posted March 10, 2012 That's strange. I hope all is OK with him.
Bryan #9 Posted March 11, 2012 He got back to me after I emailed him. I got a PRC and a couple games (including Pengo which is becoming hard to get).
+Ransom #10 Posted March 11, 2012 Awesome! I was considering getting one of those myself. (That's why I knew Lance had decent prices on them.) But I decided that since I have two 850s, it would be silly to get one of those despite the nice features they have.
Bryan #11 Posted March 11, 2012 You might be able to get enough for one of the 850's to cover the PRC, and then you'd have both. 850 prices seem to vary wildly on ebay (from about $20-$80).
+Ransom #12 Posted March 11, 2012 I really should do that. Maybe once I start selling stuff again. I have so much A8 hardware that I really don't need. What do you plan to do with your modem once it's hooked up via PRC?
Bryan #13 Posted March 11, 2012 Well, it would be cool to try dialing up some retro BBS's again. I'd like to design a phone interface so that a special number will connect me to a PC modem rather than a real phone line. Then I can "dial out" on the 8-bit but end up connected to a Telnet client on a local PC.
+Ransom #14 Posted March 12, 2012 That sounds sort of like SIO2PC's 850 emulation. Coincidentally, I just tried that over the weekend. Whenever i turned the virtual 850 on, suddenly I couldn't communicate with my real 1050. I'll try again some day. Good luck with your project!
Bryan #15 Posted March 12, 2012 Thanks! Yeah, the difference is I'd like to make the connection on the analog side of things so it all goes through the A8's modem. Of course, this then requires that the PC have a modem for the incoming connection.
+Ransom #16 Posted March 12, 2012 That'll be cool. I hope you'll post all about it when you're done with your project.
