Game Over Videogames sale 3-7-12 only: 50% off Atari, Coleco, Intellivision

Recommended Posts

From the facebook page for their Houston location:

SALE, TODAY ONLY: 50% Off ALL used Atari, Coleco and Intellivision games that are regularly $19.99 or less (which is almost everything). This 1/2 Off sale is Wednesday March 7th only and ends at 9pm today. Beef up your retro collection for 50% off those select games today!

I don't see anything for their other locations, but it could be the Houston manager posted it before the others.

Think I'll be heading into town tonight!

Based on this, it opened in October. I've hit them up a couple times so far, as well as the main Austin location which is just a few blocks from from Pinballz Arcade. I've picked up some 2600 and Coleco games from each.

There's 2 other Austin locations as well as one in San Antonio.

I called and there is no evidence of a sale in Austin.

I do like these shops, although prices are firmly retail. It's not a place to get the best deal, but they have a great selection.

I highly recommend checking them out if you are in the neighborhood of one in Austin, San Antonio or Houston.

They said they were rather slow for the night, guess people didn't want to go out in the rain. Rain wasn't that bad though, I drove there with the top down (if you're going fast enough in the S2000, over 35 mph, you won't get wet).

I picked up the few games for the 2600 & 7800 that I didn't already have (I've got 300+ for the 2600 and am missing about 15 for the 7800). I got Mega Force and Submarine Commander (I now have all the Sears exclusives!) for the 2600 and Rampage for the 7800.

Didn't get anything for the Coleco though as they only had Donkey Kong in stock. The Austin location had a lot more Coleco games.

I am out here in Austin for a friend's bachelor party. He didn't get in until after 6 pm, so I took the liberty to hop on the 101 and head up to W. Anderson Ln.

Well, I have to report that Game Over is the slickest classic video game store I've ever been in period! It took me back to the 80s absolutely. They have a nice selection of boxed 2600 games, as well as scores of loose. They have Coleco, 7800, and Texas instruments games. They even have a small museum in the back with a working Ms. Pac-Man arcade game!

While there, I was able to pick up just a few goodies, although I may be back for another run. I picked up "Castle" (Mr. Do's Castle) for the Colecovision for under $10, a reconditioned Sears Video Arcade II combination joystick/paddle for $9.99, and a GBA game (Mario vs. Donkey Kong) for the gf. The prices were fair for a nice business like theirs. Such a clean store, and really nice people running the show.

Lastly, one of the real gems locked up behind the glass counter was Crazy Climber (loose) for the Atari 2600. At $199.99, it was too rich for my blood, but still very cool to see.

I'm glad I got to stop by and experience such a place. These classic video game stores are harder and harder to come by, so I enjoy seeking them out whenever I visit a city that is new to me.
