What's new in the last decade?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering what I may have missed. I've been an A8 fan and owner for 27 years, but over the last decade I've been in and out of the A8 scene here at AA. And with the recent mention of games like Tempest Xtreem and Xenophobe and even Hobgoblin (which I just heard about in the Tempest thread), has got me wondering what else I may have missed out on when I've been away for a year or two here and there...

So, I thought I start a thread where people can list all the games released in the last decade as they remember them. Maybe I can get caught up on what I've missed.

The Atarimania advanced search page lets you restrict release date to a year, so that should cover most of it.

A fair few games slip under the radar, especially non-English language releases.

Well,

there are some overviews at atarioinline.pl regarding new A8 programs, e.g.

1) 2000 - 2004: http://atarionline.p...at=1&ct=nowinki

2) 2005 - 2008: http://atarionline.p...at=1&ct=nowinki

3) KAZ Kompo 2006: http://atarionline.p...at=1&ct=nowinki

and the result: http://atarionline.p...at=1&ct=nowinki

4) KAZ Kompo 2007:

http://atarionline.p...at=1&ct=nowinki

and the result: http://atarionline.p...at=1&ct=nowinki

5) KAZ Kompo 2008: http://atarionline.p...at=1&ct=nowinki

and the result: http://atarionline.p...at=1&ct=nowinki

6) KAZ Kompo 2009: http://atarionline.p...at=1&ct=nowinki

and the result: http://atarionline.p...at=1&ct=nowinki

7) KAZ Kompo 2010: http://atarionline.p...o2010_games.zip

All mentioned programs can be downloaded from atarionline.pl as well: http://atarionline.p...katalog&sub=%23

scroll down and take a look at the left, where it says "Gry/Games"...

Alas, there has not been a KAZ Kompo 2011/2012 yet (but I hope it will take place soon),therefore you can find all new games announced in the news, e.g. here: http://translate.goo...T1wmb572FnA1WjA

Another option is to visit Fandals site: http://www.atari.fandal.cz/

and there go to the search option, type in 2011, 2010, 2009, ... and click on "in details", which gives a result of all demos and games of that year, like this: http://www.atari.fan...utt_details_x=x

Greetings, Andreas Koch.

P.S.: You will however not find games, that are/were only available commercially (on cart) like e.g. Xenophobe or Tempest Xtreem...

I attach my "Games 2000-" folder.

The games in my selection are stored with the format NAME (YEAR) (AUTORS NAMES) (ADDITIONAL INFOS).

If available, you'll find .atr and .xex versions.

There better not be any "pirate" software in there. That's all I've got to say. ;)

I don't think there is "pirate" software, surely not the software that started flames recently (in any case I didn't have it...). ;)

Someone I knew back in college posted a video of Castle Crisis which is nice since I never got around to doing it.

Hey Bryan,

CC is awesome for multi player  - how does it stand up for single player re the scoring (HSC hat on here)?

Well, I can tell you it gets difficult in a hurry single player. Don't tell anyone, but the AI is pretty much based on the arcade ROM. What's funny is the AI routine checked to see if the ATARI message was on the screen and made the computer players malfunction if it wasn't. So, if you tried to bootleg the game you ended up with one kid playing all day for his quarter. I remember hearing that such copyright checks were common in Atari games.

Good grief you forgot SPACE HARRIER - the single best bit of 8bit software in the last 20 years let alone the last decade!

And it does run on a stock 130XE!
