CV Prototype System #1 - Found & Preserved!

Recommended Posts

I was in touch with a former Coleco Employee who was in R&D department and worked closely with Eric Bromley

I asked him if he had kept some Coleco stuff....... .... to my huge surprise, he told me he kept the very first Colecovision system they developed

Apparently, only few of those units were made

Needless to say I was like kid and immediately asked him if he was willing to sell his stuff....

He accepted!!! .... and not only he accepted but all I have to pay is the shipping fees!

So, here it is! The very first proto system (out of 5)

More pics will come on colecoindustries.com later this year ;)

Hehe... It's white. :3

Have you tested it yet? Does it work?

The cart slot is a rectangle, like atari2600 .... shape of the carts (at that time) was not like the final cart shell we all know

but you can play regular carts

There's no delay at title screen too

Ah, so does it like immediately start right into the game, or do you still get the black colecovision game, just not as long?

This is very interesting

You can simply skip it by pressing a button

Incredible J-F, congrats. What a find for your Coleco museum. Looking forward to more pics. Would be good to see the interior as well, would be interesting to see one of the first PCBs.

So, you now have a proto box, a proto console - what you now need is the proto styrene insert for the box :-D

Very nice! How fortunate this still exists!

I gotta say I like the white better than the production model. Looks much sharper.

Great to see you back on the forum and CONGRATS on the big score... I was wondering if things were going to pan out with this one. I am still waiting word back from another former employee, but as you know all to well, I'm not holding my breath.

Can't wait to hear what other stuff came about from this and I have to give   to all these former Coleco employees. The former employee that I acquired stuff from last year (including the recently released A.E. game) also passed everything on to me for the cost of shipping.

Early April Fool !! :D

In fact, I wanted a proto #1 CV system from the first time I recall having seen a pic of it

Month ago, I decided to make reproduction of that proto model

I made that post to see people's reaction :)

Part of the story is true though.... I have been in touch with a former Coleco Employee who had some stuff

No, he did not have any proto...... sadly :(

But I got a bunch of really good stuff :D
