Gregory DG #1 Posted January 20, 2003 With the Super Bowl coming up (go Bucs!) I was wondering what everyone felt was the best football game for an Atari system? This could be just about anything that has appeared on a cartridge...
King Atari #2 Posted January 20, 2003 Super Football for the 2600.
oesii #3 Posted January 20, 2003 Super Football is quality stuff for the 2600, I also like Touchdown Football for the 7800 and Atari 8-bits. People say it was slow but I like the play calling and 2 player fun I can't think of too many other Atari football games I enjoyed except maybe the arcade X's and O's I mostly play NES, Genny, and Dreamcast for good football games. Gregory DG #4 Posted January 20, 2003 So I guess the general consensus is that Super Football was the best? Does anyone like RealSports Football (2600 or 5200), Football (2600), NFL Football (Lynx), or Troy Aikman Football (Jaguar)? And wasn't there an M-Network Football game for the 2600? oesii #5 Posted January 21, 2003 I was really spoiled by NES Super Tecmo Bowl, after playing that game for like a decade, the 2600 football games never did it for me. And I never got into any of the lynx/jag ones either because of that damm Tecmo Bowl. Just my sad story I finally got into another football game with the Dreamcast's NFL2k series. Gregory DG #6 Posted January 21, 2003 I finally got into another football game with the Dreamcast's NFL2k series. NFL2Kx is definitely the best football games I ever played. They're actually FUN and it's a great help to be able to see the actual play on the playfield.
Big Player #7 Posted January 21, 2003 Super Football is the best for the 2600. The Super Challenge football cart by M-Network is a good game, except for two flaws. No punting and only two players can play. My brother and I did used to play the original 2600 Football before Super Challenge football came out. But I really love the old X's and O's arcade game. Man that game is fun with those huge trackballs.
Ze_ro #8 Posted January 21, 2003 I like Brutal Sports Football for the Jaguar... but it's hardly even football, so not sure if that counts or not (Hey, it says "football" in the name, right? ) --Zero
Gregory DG #9 Posted January 21, 2003 I like Brutal Sports Football for the Jaguar... but it's hardly even football, so not sure if that counts or not (Hey, it says "football" in the name, right? ) --Zero I suppose... If we stray from the "pure" football, I guess we could even include Cyberball as a potential "best Atari football game."
King Atari #10 Posted January 21, 2003 The original 2600 Football is okay, but not must-play.
joeybastard #11 Posted January 21, 2003 The best Atari Football is definetely X's and O's in the arcade. I think it's the best football game ever for any system or arcade version. As for the VCS, Super Football kicks ass for graphics, gameplay, and one player option. Super Challenge is next best, I played that for hours and hours with friends when it came out. SC Baseball too. Ze_ro #12 Posted January 23, 2003 I suppose... If we stray from the "pure" football, I guess we could even include Cyberball as a potential "best Atari football game." Well, I don't think we have to worry about anyone choosing Cyberball as a potential best --Zero

The X/O tabletop arcade rocks! And it dates from 1977-78(?). This is the only arcade unit I want to own. The next best thing is the Vectrex Blitz which features Xs and square Os.
