I know.. kinda a repeat.. controller keypad repair

Was wondering if ColecoNut or anyone has had any luck with their mysterious keypad problems?

 

I cleaned up a controller and got everything working except the #1 button. I made sure both the contacts and connection were clean.

I tried again still #1 not working

I heated up the keypad, separated it, cleaned the #1 contacts on the top dome and bottom circuit.... (nothing showed on swab)

tried again... #1 still not working.

 

Tried another keypad.. nothing at all.....

 

Tried another keypad.. everything working..

 

Since I know by having it now fully functional its nothing on the board....

 

1) What could be wrong with the #1 keypad?

2) Why would that other keypad be 100% dead?

 

They look pretty basic!

 

Any insights or anything else to try?

How about a cracked trace in the ribbon connector? Have you checked continuity along the traces?
