What is the total number of NES games released?...

Here in the U.S. Including both licensed and unlicensed titles. I'm really interested in this. It's gotta be in the hundreds.

From memory there's close to 800 official titles released in both the NTSC and PAL regions. Not sure about just the US.

Yeah, the US release list is somewhere between 780-820, depending on how you want to count various "special cases" like the NWC cart or Cheetahmen II.

I thought it was 750+ if you count the unlicensed titles, and 650+ if you are only counting licensed titles with label variations?

The number varies depending on what you count. For example Super Mario Bros.

 

Do you count Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt, Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt/World Track Meet as three times or just once?

 

Basically, IIRC there's around 750ish titles in North America. Then add in homebrew and such and you're probably looking at around 900. Then there's PAL exclusives.....and hundreds more Japanese Famicom exclusives, plus Famicom Disk System. When I wrote my top 100 NES/Famicom game editiorial series, I ran a rough estimate of around 2000 games developed for the 8-bit Nintendo consoles.

When I was in Jr high my friend said he knew someone who had them all. But it was only 500 or so back then.

I've seen folders with over 22,000 .nes files. So, if we're being all inclusive there's more than a few.

I believe the cart releases during the nes life span numbered in the mid 600s. Not including hacks and homebrews since the end of that console cycle.

Keeping track of the unlicensed ones seems to be problematic. It wasn't just Tengen, Camerica and Color Dreams cranking out titles. I have pirate NES style carts too.
