Kind of dissapointed with super fighter team...

Recommended Posts

Nightmare Buster for the SNES...was pretty excited about this one. I knew it was pretty far from being released and Super Fighter team does not do pre orders but I figured I would check in and see how far along it was. Well, basically they DID take pre orders on it (for a little over a week) reached there cap of 600 copies and "might" make more of them after they ship the first 600 for those of us that were not checking the site every week. I guess in 2013 I will have to check the site every day so I don't miss the second run. I don't know, I have purchased every single SFT release, even Beggar Prince TWICE to get a non bug version...you think I would have got a heads up on this but I guess not...oh well, just my little rant....not mad, just dissapointed...Guess I will have to pay inflated Ebay prices, ugh...lame

*message on website below... Our 600 copy pre-order limit for Nightmare Busters has been reached as of March 8, 2012. We'd like to thank all of our loyal customers and fans for helping make Nightmare Busters our fastest selling game product since the company's inception in 2004. The game, to be released in 2013, may be put back into production at some point after the initial 600 copies have been shipped. To be notified if and when new stock of Nightmare Busters becomes available, please join our mailing list.

Bummer.

Nothing says awesome like only having preorder copies exist. Sounds alot like the Pier Solar escapades. There will probably be another run, maybe even a third! Hopefully each one won't have new packaging and "REPRINT" slapped all over it or something to cheapen the experience.

Just wait for someone to dump it and make your own repro of it? Would probably be cheaper.

If you use Facebook, you should follow them there. You'll get all the important updates. They announced the pre-order there.

EDIT:

You can also take their advice and join their mailing list. Then you'll definitely be in the loop should orders re-open for the game.

If preorders sell out that quickly, I'd imagine it'd be in their interest to sell more in order to make profit. Clearly people are interested in buying them. doesn't having preorders help gauge interest?

Of course, I have no idea how they're producing them. If it's by hand, it'd make sense to limit it.

Their popularity is a sign that classic games are still very much alive and they need to rise to the occasion. I don't think they WANT to turn anyone away. They need to come up with the means to produce as many as people want so the eBay inflation scenario doesn't take place for years instead of weeks. Same thing happens with popular concerts. Scalpers get the tickets to sell to fans. The fans may not have the money to go because $400 vs $40 is a big difference.

I'm on the mailing list, never got anything? Oh well, maybe it went to my spam folder or something...

I guess they've moved to update Facebook more than the mailing list. FB is how I was made aware of the pre-order.

I wonder how they picked 600 as their top end target for pre-orders. I can understand that their PCB manufacturer might require orders of a certain magnitude, but I can't image them being unable to put in an order for 700, 800 or 1000. I've always had the impression that SFT want to keep their releases rare, which is definitely a shame.

lol. "In order to stay current, you must use facebook!" hipsters. lrn2copypaste. They could send messages to people on the mailing list, and then copy them to FB. It's not hard. FFS, even I do that.

Yeah, the general impression is that their stuff is rare, and noone else does it like them, or something over inflated like that.

I'll never do facebook. Never.

Exactly. You and many others are essentially hosed by SFT if their main form of updates is something some people don't want to concern themselves with.

I'm not surprised though, lol

Well, I am on Facebook but it's not something I'm on very often so thats a little dissapointing that it was a "facebook only" release. I'm also not sure if I am "friends" with SFT or not, guess I'll have to check incase I want any other games since this is the future, lol.

Yeah, I am starting to get the impression they are going for false rarity as well, lame. Great for collectors I guess but for SFT's homebrews (or whatever SFT games classify as) I actually enjoy playing them so kind of a turn off when I can't even buy it in a timely manner after it's release. Grrrrrr.....

SFT seems to talk themselves up as "the best" and like it's been mentioned, they seem to make their games "rare" on purpose.

Dump + repro + <3

I mean, it's not like they are using the highest quality clamshell cases for the Genesis games. I can't imagine the SNES one is going to be any better. My Wukong case shattered like glass basically while opening it. I bet you could get a dump and make your own for ~what it costs to buy it retail, and it would be better quality to boot!

Funny thing is a do a lot of my updates on FaceBook and Twitter and I find them (especially FaceBook) to be a great way to keep people updated. However on a personal level I rarely use it myself. Our current store software makes keeping in touch with customers a huge chore. We are switching to newer and different software eventually here, but switching software for an established store is quite the undertaking.

Honestly what I would really like to see is a Vendor / Retailer specific category on the big retro gaming forums (AA, DigitPress, NA, Sega-16, etc.) where Vendors and Retailers can post sales, new products, pre-order information, etc. Maybe vendors even need to pay a fee for a yearly subscription that allows them to post new topics in this forum. I think it would be good way to keep people updated on new products and sales.I know there is a Marketplace forum, but IMO that is more for private sellers. The reason I think this is a good idea is first it helps support the forum with subscription fees, but second it gives us retailers the ability to keep customers and potential customers updated in a place many people visit daily. I try to stay away from posting too much about SAG promotions and products because I think it annoys some people, however if there was a category devoted to this I think people would be much more accepting of this.

Also I do understand there is a "Gaming Publications and Websites", but that also seems more targeted towards non-retail gaming sites and magazines.

Just an idea.

That would be kind of neat, and better than when people pop on just to advertise their project and then vanish until the next one shows up.

If Sega just up and started making 5,000 copies of Genesis games (new titles) I'd bet they would sell briskly in stores like Walmart even. It would be a dream come true if they would just support the homebrew scene like XBLA and let people make games, submit them, and then publish them up. I've contended for years that they could take pre-orders and publish games only once the threshold was met to make it worth while to go to press. When you look at titles like Panzer Saga where they still went ahead for a few thousand copies, it can't possibly be not worth it to them. I'll never understand why companies don't support what the fans like/want, and just try to constantly reinvent the wheel.

In Sega's defense they gave it a go with the portable system and firecore system released a few years ago (both played classic carts and SD card capability) the next step would have been homebrew support/etc but they both flopped unfortunately...

Those systems were just licensed, not released by Sega themselves. The Firecore systems actually sell quite well in certain regions of the world. Unfortunately, the emulation they use is extremely poor.

Hey, they opened Nightmare Busters up for another 600 copies:

http://www.superfighter.com/index.html

Good thing I thought to look, since signing up for being notified when/if another run was going to be available did not get me any notification!

Oh and this apparently happened back on April 26 (those guys need to work on their notification system).

That is out of character for the guy in charge at SFT.

Usually whenever things like this happens, he goes to all the usual forums, makes a quick post leading people to the site to give him money...

....and then he vanishes until the next time.

On a side note, when games like this sell so many, I feel that the people that are backordered on other games from Super Fighter Team that have to wait over a year on backorder suffer. It is really frustrating to have to wait so long for a game to have another one shipped. Not getting any concrete information about its release is also frustrating. As someone who has nearly ordered everything they have ever made, I wish it was different.
