cimerians #1 Posted April 13, 2012 Just curious to read through some lists here. I think mine was Ultima 3 (C64) and then possibly either Dragon Warrior 1 or FF7. Does Zelda count?
genesisguy #2 Posted April 13, 2012 Unless Zelda counts none. Does GTA San Andreas count? I've tried them in 8-bit and 16-bit forms and they bore me to no end.
NE146 #3 Posted April 13, 2012 I shied away from RPG's in the Apple 2 days (Wizardy, Ultima, etc.) because I just didn't get them as a child. The first RPG I ever beat was in the console days and it was the original Phantasy Star on the SMS.
MagitekAngel #4 Posted April 13, 2012 (edited) I wouldn't count Zelda, so for me, I'm going to have to say. . . Pokemon Blue? I enjoy, collect, and play RPGs of all shapes and sizes, but I have a habit of not beating them. Example: in Final Fantasy VII, I've done nearly all the game, I've leveled up my doods, I've done most of the sidequests and everything, but I haven't gone after the WEAPONs yet, or fought Sephiroth. I tend to max these games out then simply not beat them. Edited April 13, 2012 by MagitekAngel
+bennybingo #5 Posted April 13, 2012 Ultima II - C64
+boxpressed #6 Posted April 13, 2012 I *think* I beat Tunnels of Doom on my TI 99/4A. I *know* I beat Ultima III on my IBM PC.
BillyHW #7 Posted April 13, 2012 (edited) Phantasy Star - SMS. Edited April 13, 2012 by BillyHW
Skarrj #8 Posted April 13, 2012 Either Dragon Warrior or the First Final Fantasy. Id say maybe adventure on atari but I cant remember if I actually ever finished it.
Metal Jesus #9 Posted April 13, 2012 That would be Pool of Radiance on the C64 for me. Loved that game!
Rex Dart #10 Posted April 13, 2012 Oregon Trail? Or Super Mario RPG.
SoulBlazer #11 Posted April 13, 2012 Dragon Warrior, 1987, brand new game, beat at the tender age of 11. Mind you, that wasn't the first RPG I PLAYED....just the first one I actually finished.
PsychedelicShaman #12 Posted April 13, 2012 Dragon Warrior 1, which I believe is the first RPG I ever played too. Recently went back and max leveled, the DragonLord went pretty easily:)
Cybergoth #13 Posted April 13, 2012 That was the Bard's Tale on the C64. I also beat the second one, but somewhere lost interest in one of the 80+ dungeons of the third
Galeforcerm #14 Posted April 13, 2012 Pokemon red.
mbd30 #15 Posted April 13, 2012 Probably "Final Fantasy II" on the SNES. Or "The Legend Of Zelda" if that counts.
roland p #16 Posted April 13, 2012 SD Snatcher. Probably the only RPG I like...
Tempest #17 Posted April 13, 2012 Probably Bard's Tale on my Apple II.
retrorussell #18 Posted April 13, 2012 Zelda, then probably Zelda II or Dragon Warrior.
BillyHW #19 Posted April 13, 2012 Does Zelda really count? I think not.
Rex Dart #20 Posted April 13, 2012 Does Zelda really count? I think not. Sort of. It DOES allow for more role-play than games that simply hand you a role, like Final Fantasy 7.
Almost Rice #21 Posted April 13, 2012 Ultima 3 Atari 800xl
Austin #22 Posted April 13, 2012 Dragon Warrior on the NES, followed by Final Fantasy on the NES. Zelda and Zelda II came prior, but I don't consider those RPGs. More-so action-adventure games, if you have to give them a label (Zelda II obviously veering far from the "adventure" part).
cimerians #23 Posted April 13, 2012 Fun to read through what was the first RPG you beat and got a CONGRATULATIONS...END Credit or just a "Thank You for playing" Zelda is getting some strikes. Is Diablo an RPG? Tempest has a Gemstone Warrior avatar...Diablo-like gameplay if I remember. Thats another debatable one since its just a Rogue like dungeon crawl. I personally think it is because you have stats, hit-points and you level up in the traditional D&D method.
GKC #24 Posted April 13, 2012 (edited) I don't play RPGs but even I gave Final Fantasy VII a try and beat it back in the day. Edited April 13, 2012 by GKC
FireStar #25 Posted April 13, 2012 (edited) Pokemon Silver, in fact until I started emulating games and beat Eathbound (not sure if completed zero or 1 first), all the RPGs I beat were Pokemon games. Edited April 13, 2012 by FireStar
