a couple of questions

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of modding a 7800 to write 2600 games (this can be done, right?), anyone have any tips? And my other question was, Can the synthcart rom be played on the computer? I'm having trouble getting it to work.

Thanks,

Jeff

I would get a 2600... 7800's are a lot more rare in comparison. 2600's are less than $10 these days... might as well get one and not mod anything.

The Synthcart ROM should work on all of the emulators, although some have better sound emulation than others. Just make sure you have F8 bankswitching selected and keyboard controllers enabled.

I'm pretty sure that the Synthcart will work on the computer. If I remember, Paul released the binary to beta testers so it could be tested on the Cuttle Cart. Then again, maybe I'm mistaken.

Here's another idea. You may be able to develop games on the PC itself. I would think it's possible to write code, compile then test on an emulator. Maybe post this on the programming forum, those guys are very sharp.

There are quite a few people that do that. Most use Z26 as it's probably the most accurate. Thomas, Manuel and Andrew (among others) all develop via emulation. If they need to test on a real Atari they just post the ROM on the Stella list and ask people that have Cuttle Carts to test it out. I have a Cuttle Cart but I still tested a lot of Marble Craze on Z26.

Dude, just get a Supercharger or a Cuttle Cart... no modifications necessary.
