TedHub #1 Posted April 22, 2012 Hello, I'm planning on buying a Colecovision tomorrow and I want to know how large it measures, so I can know if it will fit on my gaming shelf. Any help would be great!
BillyHW #2 Posted April 22, 2012 I don't have one anymore that I could measure it for you. It's big, about the size of an old VCR. And the AC Adapter or power supply is huge IIRC.
kelrodjr #3 Posted April 22, 2012 Approximate measurements are 15" x 9.5" x 3". If you want to add the Atari expansion module add another 5 inches to the front of the unit.
TedHub #4 Posted April 22, 2012 Alrighty, thanks! Getting that Coleco today!
SKELETOR68 #5 Posted April 22, 2012 I hope you enjoy the Coleco Vision and congrats on getting one.
VectorGamer #6 Posted April 22, 2012 The size of a ColecoVision is immeasurable - it is bigger than life Congrats on the purchase/theft of this great system!
TedHub #7 Posted April 22, 2012 Thank you! Ended up not getting it since the store was out of stock, though... Onto the next game store!
cOLeCoHiTMan #8 Posted April 22, 2012 How much was it? You can get a fully modded one from Yurkie in a couple days for $179 (rebuilt controllers, straightened cords, ball knobs, fast bios, pause button, rebuilt power switch etc fully cleaned and tested) ... Check out his videos.. chances are if you just "find" one it needs work anyway. 4jays.net has them listed for $90 with no mods.
+Ransom #9 Posted April 22, 2012 I highly recommend the Yurkie modded ones, if you have the cash. They're totally worth it. Mine improved my Colecovision experience from good to great!

I'm likely going to be getting an unmodded Coleco and sending it into Yurkie.

Depending on the price you pay for the damaged colecovision and his services it could end up costing you more than just getting one from him that he has already modded. Well I don't know if they were selling the broken one specifically since they were using it as a display model in the window. There's another big retro game store nearby so I'll check it out later this week.
cOLeCoHiTMan #13 Posted April 22, 2012 Well.. I know Yurkie has a disclaimer he'd rather people send him Coleco's if possible so he can save as many as possible.. and I'm sure he doesn't have an endless supply in his area either! Here's one from Steve at Atarimax for $50 if he still has it. http://www.atarimax.com/classic/forsale/index.html (ColecoVision page)
BillyHW #14 Posted April 22, 2012 I feel so guilty for throwing mine away. At the time I didn't realize it could be fixed. Wish I had the money to buy one off this Yurkie fellow you keep talking about. Maybe in a couple years.

Depending on if they let me have it, of course. That Atarimax one looks really good though.
cOLeCoHiTMan #16 Posted April 22, 2012 Don't go too broken... Yurkie is awesome but I'm sure he can't bring all back from the dead (or at least they aren't cost effective too)
TedHub #17 Posted April 23, 2012 Don't go too broken... Yurkie is awesome but I'm sure he can't bring all back from the dead (or at least they aren't cost effective too) Yeah, I'll make sure to ask how broken it is.
TedHub #18 Posted April 24, 2012 Okay, got a Colecovision in full working condition from that other store. It's a bit bad off cosmetically, the expansion module door seems to have been lodged open for years, and it won't go down. The metal around the expansion module is rusty. Other than that, I'm having a blast with it.
VectorGamer #19 Posted April 24, 2012 What games did you get with it?
TedHub #20 Posted April 24, 2012 What games did you get with it? Donkey Kong (of course!), Zaxxon, BurgerTime and Ladybug. The store did not have too broad of a selection (can't find Frenzy anywhere!)
VectorGamer #21 Posted April 24, 2012 That's a great batch of titles to start off with. Ladybug - now that game always gives me a coronary... When you find yourself wanting more from the system, I highly recommend getting the roller controller along with the driving controller module. Those two add-ons take the ColecoVision to the next level. And of course, you'll want to check out Retrocade Magazine because we review a lot of ColecoVision!
TedHub #22 Posted April 24, 2012 Thanks for reassuring me on my selection! Yeah, my situation with the controllers is weird, I don't have any room on my desk for anything. The Coleco is on a shelf so I can't really have anything big attached to it. I should hack up an extension cord for the extension module if I want to get a driving controller I was eyeing Retrocade.... That looks really neat! I'll make sure to buy an issue. SKELETOR68 #23 Posted April 24, 2012 You have to get PEPPER II And Donkey Kong Jr, both are very common and very easy to get!
VectorGamer #24 Posted April 24, 2012 You have to get PEPPER II And Donkey Kong Jr, both are very common and very easy to get! Pepper II is one of my favorite games on the ColecoVision and arcade. There are so many second tier arcade titles translated to the CV that are really good: Venture, Mouse Trap, Frenzy, Carnival, Cosmic Avenger, Space Fury, Slither, Ladybug, Roc N Rope and Subroc. And all of those are relatively common.
