Gregory DG #1 Posted January 22, 2003 I was perusing the Jaguar rarity guide here at AA the other day when I realized, "Man, I've got a lot of rare games for this system!" Aircars - 9 (Extremely Rare) BattleSphere - 8 (Very Rare+) Atari Karts - 8 (Very Rare+) Zero 5 - 7 (Very Rare) World Tour Racing - 7 (Very Rare) Towers II - 7 (Very Rare) SkyHammer - 7 (Very Rare) Protector - 7 (Very Rare) Iron Solder II - 7 (Very Rare) Breakout 2000 - 7 (Very Rare) Then there's just the 6's & 5's Rayman - 6 (Rare+) Primal Rage - 6 (Rare+) NBA JAM - 6 (Rare+) Defender 2000 - 6 (Rare+) Missile Command 3D - 5 (Rare) Dragon's Lair - 5 (Rare) Braindead 13 - 5 (Rare) Is it me, or does the Jaguar itself have a lot of Rare and above games? What system do you have the most rare games for?
joeybastard #2 Posted January 22, 2003 Probably the CV. I have about 95% of the games for that system and I know some are rare. I would have to check the lists again to see exactly what I still need for a complete collection.
King Atari #3 Posted January 22, 2003 I guess the 2600. Two 5's Two 6's and a 7 I don't really count the NES, as rarity guides are out of date.
Witchfynde #4 Posted January 22, 2003 Probably anything for my Vectrex, I think most of that stuff in general is rare I don't have the 3-D goggles or games, or the light pen or anything though...I guess Bedlam is the rarest game I have, it was in the last batch of games to come out for the system. As for my Atari 2600 and 7800, hmm, have to do some research on those, don't know which ones are rare...Tunnel Runner for the 2600 is the rarest I have, or the Supercharger's Phaser Patrol. I don't have a lot of rare ones for either system, so I'd probably have to say the Vectrex.
glitch #5 Posted January 22, 2003 I only have 1 game above a 7 and that is Citizen X (beta) for the SegaCD so I'm not even sure if that would count since they are making more. Other than that my break down is (rarity as judged by DPG except for Atari systems which is AtariAge's): Atari Lynx 12 rarity 7s 2 rarity 6s 9 rarity 5s Sega Genesis 1 rarity 7 2 rarity 6s 3 rarity 5s NES 2 rarity 7s 2 rarity 5s 3DO 1 rarity 7 1 rarity 6 1 rarity 5 2600 2 rarity 6s 1 rarity 5 Vectrex 2 rarity 6s SegaCD 1 rarity 9 1 rarity 5 every other system is either all below 5 or unknown. Vectrex-Atari #6 Posted January 22, 2003 I think my Vectrex would win in the rarity list. My second would a the 5200 with a Boxed Zaxxon.
Mindfield #7 Posted January 23, 2003 Probably by virtue of the fact that I have more carts for it than anything, it'd be NES: Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar - B (Rare) The Little Mermaid - B (Rare) Galaga - B (Rare) Elevator Action - B- (Borderline Rare) Mario Bros - B- (Borderline Rare) The rest are all C+ (Not Quite Rare) right down the line to F (Unbelievably Common) These are 5-year-old Funcoland rarities, tho, so they may not be 100% accurate. (I don't have a DP guide to check against...)
BoOchan! #8 Posted January 23, 2003 It Would have to be the Master System For Me. All the rarity guides are out of date and the one I created for the SMS is crappy and judged on the games I see.
oesii #9 Posted January 23, 2003 I have a bunch of 6's and some 7's for the 2600. I don't think the rarity lists are that good for the Jag, maybe because it's a more recent system. But almost all those games listed as rare can be had pretty easily. You might have to pay forty or sixty bucks for some of them but they are still available online. I could also go pay $400 for a Quadrun or a Crazy Climber the next time it appears on Ebay. That doesn't make it a common!
oesii #11 Posted January 23, 2003 hehe, that's true. I just think since it's more of a recent system and a few places still have stocks of Jag games available, most of the rare games for the Jag are not in the same league as the ones for the 2600, 5200, etc. In ten years when everyone runs out of NOS then we can talk
MegaManFan #12 Posted January 23, 2003 If there are any US released "rarities" for SMS or 7800, I own them by now with the exception of Mean 18 Ultimate Golf. I own a Vectrex with a shitload of games, including one I've been told is supposed to be hard to find (Polaris I think) and they all have instructions and screen overlays. I've got a sporadic number of NES rarities: Jungle Book, Spiritual Warfare, Tengen Tetris, but none of the SUPER VALUE ones like a Nintendo World Championship cart, or Panesian Hot Slots or Bubble Bath Babes. If I saw one at a thrift or flea, I'd buy it of course - but I never do and I certainly wouldn't pay hundreds on eBay for one.
eric_ruck #13 Posted January 23, 2003 I think a lot of the ratings are out of whack. For instance, Atari Karts could be had for just cold hard cash, no real looking required, and you don't even have to snipe an auction. By that definition Aircars is certainly rarer. I have complete collections for the Jag, Lynx, Vectrex and 7800...I guess at this point then I would consider my largest rare collection for the 7800 and Vectrex, because some of those games are getting really hard to find. I wish I did have a boxed 5200 Zaxxon. I think the rarest piece of software I have would be the "Answering Service" proto cart for the Atari 1400XL. Doesn't seem to do anything besides put a logo on the screen, but then I haven't really explored it too deeply. Eric

What system do you have the most rare games for? The thing is that the Jaguar Rarity guide here is VERY misleading; Most of those games at the top are "rare" because production runs were low, but, the market was also EXTREMELY small, so most of those games are readily available still, at many online sites, but they are also still listed at full price, so based on production run and high price, AA has listed them as rare. But anyone here that wants one of those, except for Aircars and Battlesphere, can easily obtain them, and even Aircars and Battlesphere still pop up frequently on E-bay. They aren't like other systems were the games are "hard to find rare."
AtariDude #16 Posted January 24, 2003 Kind of hard to believe that a system released in 1993 could have "rare" games given the fact that the Atari 2600 was released in 1977. It is a shame that the Jaguar did not catch on as did some other systems (Playstation for example). The Jaguar really needed to have some great games released with it when it started but the first few games released were not very good (A friend of mine bought one of the early Jaguars and complained about the early games). The short production run of the Jaguar probably has more to do with rarity than having difficulty in obtaining items.
Keir #17 Posted January 24, 2003 For me it would be the VIC-20 (percentage wise, at least). I only have 37 carts for the system, but 2 are 8's, 2 are 6's and 3 are 5's. Then again maybe it's Virtual Boy since I've only got 1 and it's a 5! (These are Digital Press rarity numbers, BTW.)
