Junosix #1 Posted April 23, 2012 I've been given a Jaguar which inexplicably has had the modulator removed. Trying to use it with an A/V cable and I'm not getting a picture. Is this because the composite sync signal is generated by the modulator? If so, does that mean the Jag is junk unless I can get a modulator for it? No you can use scart cable for connecting it on a screen. GT
Junosix #3 Posted April 23, 2012 That's what I'm trying to do. Thing is I'm wondering if the vertical sync (which is listed as composite sync on the Jag pinout) is generated via the modulator because I'm not seeing a picture.
Zerosquare #4 Posted April 23, 2012 The modulator only generates the RF output (and it's not even present on French Jags). Unlike the Atari ST, the composite, S-video and RGB video output are always available.

+Stephen Moss #6 Posted April 24, 2012 (edited) I needed to get my combined AV/SCART cable rewired as IIRC it was wired for sync on Green and not sepreate H and V syncs although that does not sound like your problem as you should still get an image just that it will be slanted (H sync) or rolling (V sync). Assuming that you have a cartridge inserted and the Jag powers up the key question is do you get any sound? You should get that even if it there is something wrong with the video stage, if you are not getting any sound then likely causes are... 1) You have connected the cable to the Jaguar upside down 2) The cable is totally defective. 3) Your set has more than one SCART socket either you are not selecting the correct socket or have it plugged into a dummy socket that is only active on the more expensive versions of the same model. 4) The Jaguar dead Edited April 24, 2012 by Stephen Moss
sh3-rg #7 Posted April 24, 2012 #4 might be a likely candidate given the machine was already tinkered with and given away...
LinkoVitch #8 Posted April 26, 2012 Are you sure the modulator was 'removed' and it isn't one of the Jag's that simply never had one? Is there a hole in the back of the case for the RF socket, or a filled in blank? As ZeroSquare said, the French Jag's simply don't have a modulator, I have obtained one or two of these myself and have only obtained jags in the UK (I think some were sold like this in the UK too at some point).
