Building a secret gaming room...

Recommended Posts

Crazy Climber is right, the GF will want more. Just wait another few years, she will be over this "phase" you guys are in....that biological clock is ticking for her. (always exceptions to the rule though, but not many) But hey, just enjoy it now while you can! And hey, kids and marriage is pretty good. (at least for me)

Yeah, I put off marriage for awhile myself. Not sure what I was so afraid of, having a family is great! No way in Hell I would do it at 24. It would be nice to have a weekend off though...I'm terrible, hope my Wife doesn't read this...oh wait, in full disclosure I should tell her about it otherwise I am living an unhealthy marriage and am a terrible husband building our life together on lies. Okay, going to tell my Wife tonight I would like to take a weekend off from the marriage thing to relieve my early 20's bachelor days, I'll let you guys know how it goes :)

I have had a ton of pages like this bookmarked for a while...I'm just waiting to move to a new house and then the spare bedroom will get one of these as an entry door! ;) In my case, the wifey knows I want to build this. It is more of a conversation piece for me than anything else. It will also give me a better sense of security for my game collection when I am out of the house. A typical "smash and grab" thief wouldn't be looking for a secret nerd lair!

Maybe someday...dare to dream.

That's funny, my wife usually wants me to take the weekend off so she can test market this "Hitachi Wand" product she never stops talking about. I never knew she was a tech geek! :ponder:

On a serious note, I am 29 and have been married for 8 years now. The first six were hell for both of us.....almost divorced several times....but as you get older your relationship gets better....we are very happy now! I say never marry young, from experience!!

That one may require a totally different kind of "secret room"! ;)

Some people take the internet way too seriously - get over yourselves.

When I got to the end of this ridiculous thread, I had to ask myself how I got here...So much crap being thrown back and forth its hard to determine why I started or continued to read. Then, I realized its because this "Secret Game Room" is exactly what I desire someday (22, unmarried, etc). A cool little room, mostly to hide 'adult' items from children, guests, even theives. They can take my wife's jewelry but they'll never find my Vectrex muahahaha! The fake-eye picture would be the perfect cherry on this project. Kudos, Mr. Climber.

Lastly - the bong hit/defarting ventilation system also has a purpose on keeping the dust down - I know you are 100% doing it, but I just want to reinforce the importance of the idea :)

Well, in defense of the ladies who became upset at my idea, the original posting did mention that I was going to keep the room a total secret from my Wife and it would also help hide the quantity of my video game purchases (which I am still going to do, she will totally forget about all this, mainly because she doesn't care, lol). I guess this was taken more as I am constantly being untruthful to my Wife and it will destroy our marriage which I was a little offended by. I thought more people would get the humor in it, but no, lol.

I also forgot that not everyone here is my age or in my situation, I mean arkhan posting that he is unmarried no kids and 24 years old hit me like a ton of bricks....of course he doesn't get it, why the hell would you hide a purchase from your GF, all they have to do is split the rent and utilities, they are really more like a room mate that is ALWAYS there and well, you know, gives you BJ's, lol.

It was meant as a much more "light hearted" post, you know, the ol "my wife would kill me if she knew what I spent on this" kind of thing. Good example would be I just made $100 selling my CNC routed Space Invader wall sets (currently available for $40 shipped per set and shown in ceiling pic below, shameless plug) do you think I am going to run home and tell my Wife that? Uh..hell no...that is going to a stupid un-needed video game purchase. Is it lying? Not really and the truth is I know she really wouldn't care, was just trying to have a little fun with the other guys that are "doing time" but it was taken out of context

Now for fun, a few pics of rooms in my house BEFORE I was "married with children" lol

Okay, back on topic ;)

I am debating what to go with for seating... Since it is my "secret" room I could just do one nice recliner, but would be nice to have two seats in the event of a friend/etc stopping by. The problem is two recliners would take up a LOT of my space. I found these on Craiglist (former airline seats) and they would be PERFECT!! Seems like the most space saving, comfortable and able to have two guys sitting next to each other really close without feeling weird seats I can find. The guy wants $600 though which I just can't justify, I'll keep an eye on them though, if I could snake them for $100-$200 then maybe....

Cool...... http://www.ajc.com/news/north-fulton/trapdoor-secret-room-found-284740.html

A Milton couple who recently purchased a house discovered a feature that wasn't listed among the amenities: a trapdoor leading to a secret room.

Workers were pulling up the carpet at the house on Nix Road to install a hardwood floor when they stumbled across a plywood trapdoor, according to a Milton Police report. Stairs underneath the trapdoor led to a room behind a walled-off portion of the basement.

The workers contacted the homeowners, who then called police. Officers used their flashlights to search the darkened room. It was mostly cleaned out, but they discovered a large trash bag containing "miscellaneous equipment that could be used in the growing of marijuana plants," the police report stated.

The couple told police they purchased the four-bedroom, three bathroom home at foreclosure in December and were in the process of renovating it. They said the house had been inspected twice in September and October of 2009. The trapdoor went undetected both times. The house was built in 1995.

The police report indicates that investigators are looking into whether the prior homeowner was involved in growing and harvesting marijuana. Capt. John Huey of Milton Police would only state that "the investigation is ongoing."

Nothing compared to Gacy, or what cc might do once hers is finished.
