Building a secret gaming room...

Why would they have police come investigate a secret room?

now its not a secret and they no longer have a sweet place to hide anything good.

good job.

Officers used their flashlights to search the darkened room. It was mostly cleaned out, but they discovered a large trash bag containing "miscellaneous equipment that could be used in the growing of marijuana plants," the police report stated.

Nothing compared to Gacy, or what cc might do once hers is finished.

Really? You're getting really close to crossing the line into trolling territory. Enough with the pointless insults.

Really? I began posting in this thread rather innocuously, and another poster made insulting comments toward me. Has that person been warned? Oh, I forgot that you actually laughed at the insults, so they must be ok. Seems a little one sided.

Actually your last round of insults about me being a tranny/etc I clicked "like" and did not insult back, that was in effort to move on :) Yeah, I'm down for a little internet bickering now and then but I think ours has run it's course ;)

Buh bye. You started innocuously, but decided you couldn't play nice after a moderator told you to knock it off.

Now, back on topic, a little movie theater would be pretty cool....get one of those wide-throw projectors and you can make seating out of pallets and pillows/big cushions like so:

That's pretty cool. I have the 'secret' gaming room that's tucked away behind our stairs. It's more 'tucked away' than secret though. I have a futon and a couple of small rolling desk chairs for seating. My 12 and 6 year old enjoy playing games in the Atari room. My older son isn't into retro games but he moves the futon out to the theater area to create two rows of seating.

Some movie theater seats might not be a bad idea... Pallets will be a little big for a 9' x 7' room with low ceiling clearance but the actual fold down style movie seats might be a good route. They are cheap too, several on CL right now for under $50, hmmmmm.....

Was able to finish the main wall tonight. Found a pretty close match (if not exact) to the current knotty pine down there, now just have to find a matching stain and the first layer of camoflauge is complete. The room is still an absolute mess though, a water pipe burst in there a few years back and it's pretty much always been a shitty room. The orignal plan was to put this wall up so I could secretly finish the interior without the Wife knowing but the cats out of the bag so now I am regretting doing the wall first since my only access point is a 3' x 4' hole, lol. Anways here is a few status update pics :)

This thread is just like a good book, I read it over and over sometimes, going through all the Good ideas, Insults, Comic Relief and so on. Seeing how everything blows out of proportion on the first few posts.

 Cebus saves the day again!

Awe, leaving so sqoon? :rolling: Sorry... I couldn't help it.

Anyways, I know space is limited, but I just can't help but thinking about the movie Blast from the Past with Christopher Walken.

You really should have minimal water and facilities in case you have to hold up there for 30 years

Wow, I had to go back and read the posts on this topic, and I have to agree with the OP! I think there's a lot of well-meaning people who just didn't get what he was trying to do, no matter how much he tried to explain himself.

On the plus side, at least you know these people care about the institue of marriage! :D

And I'm totally interested in seeing how this turns out. Completely unlike how the other thread about that 'so-and-so's new life' , lol.

Updated the first post with some pics :)

Nothing too exciting yet, finished the main wall, framed and insulated the interior walls.

I can't decide if I should drop the coin for some nice Knotty pine planks on the interior (probably $100+) or just make some composite aluminium walls from my scrap metal at work. I should probably just do it correctly and get the knotty pine....but thats $100 that could go to stocking it up with games :) Hmmmmmm........

nice Knotty pine planks

Knotty but nice? I just had to.

I'm 24 like that other guy and not married yet, but I totally get what you're doing. This is the kind of thing where the girl just calls you a goofball when she finds it.

Okay, picking up some "movie theater" seats tonight. $30 for a row of seven, couldn't turn it down even though I only need 2. Hopefully they are not total shit, lol.

I don't understand. If you fill your secret room with video games, where will you put the herb garden?

Nice. Must be a lot of work, getting all the stuff in, trough the small entrance. Bet you where better of doing the side walls, and back wall first, and the front wall last.

Oh totally, would have been MUCH easier. I originally did it this way because I was going to keep it a complete secret from my Wife. I was going to say that I was boxing off the old coal room area "out of sight out of mind" and any work I was doing in there was just "insulation" or something else she wouldn't care about. Would have worked like a charm, she would have never even bothered looking in there....

The funny thing is, even now that she knows about it I bet she still will never even bother looking at it, she hasn't looked yet, lol

This might be the most facepalm-inducing thread I've ever suffered through on AtariAge.

It really tickles the ol' gag reflex to watch a guy get judged and coached on family matters by righteous indignant "moral compass" types hiding anonymously behind retrogaming avatars. I've seen some dumb shit on the internet, but this might take the cake.

If you're too much of a puritanical fuddy-duddy to appreciate the blissful oblivion of a secret, debaucherous tryst with some 8-bit sprites and maybe the odd light gun, then that's fantastic--your "Husband of the Year" lapel pins are in the mail. But for crying out loud, get back to watching The View and keep the comments to yourselves.
